I have Corolla CE110 (Crystal Light) YOM 1997 Oct, XE Saloon Limited.

I am thinking of changing the Meter Board Unit as it is nice to have RPM meter.

My question is that if this new unit (from CE110 SE Saloon)) would just work when plug in to the connectors?

or I might have to do some modifications as well? Esp in speedometer cable/sensors/speedometer drive gear?

Hi,

My car is same model (CE110 1997 XE) and I found tacho meter wire (not connected) under the meter cluster. So I think this is possible. However you may need some calibration. I measured tacho wire frequency to be at about 250Hz when idling.

abiman, From where did u find Meter Board Unit for CE110?

I tried around Delkanda but no success for CE110 but there were plenty of units for AE110!

I haven't bought new meter cluster. I'm just talking about existing one of my car. I found tacho wire when I tried to install remote start system.

Hi just curious to know how you measured the frequency of the tacho wire.

Thanks!

'nano31,

I contacted him he informs me that you car has a normal meter old type not digital you want to fix a RPM meter then you have to fix a censer facing the fly wheel and have to have a electronic tachometer I do not know this is available in Srilanka. I have a mechanical tachometer which is connected to any turning shaft with a rubber connector and get a reading which I use for testing Electrical motor RPM.

Old MG cars had a tachometer with a flexible cable that was fitted to the end of Lucas Dynamo which had a Armature with end extended to fix the tachometer flexible cable and the brush holder end had the extended coupling with threads to fix the flexible cable outer.

your requirement is to fix a RPM Meter is that correct please reply try to help you.

Abiman said, that he found a tacho meter wire. then This model has a sensor. Normally this sensor is a puls generator. In other words a kind of DC motor. But most of the time you can't spin it by connecting to a battery. If you can find a meter cluster, a good technician can do this.... One thing you have to check is the speedo meter that you have now. is it cable driven or wire driven...???

@ Sylvi Wijesinghe,

Many thanks for your efforts!

Actually I didn't wanna be having a separate RPM, as u might know corolla 110 SE versions do have it in the meter cluster. I am planing to find a matching meter cluster from a used spare parts shop and fix it to my car.

I think it is a cable driven one but I wanna confirm it again.

@Isuru Udana,

Yeah Friend, but CE/AE 100 meter cluster will not be matching for 110!

I know. I just mentioned that to say that your car is not that old not to have a RPM meter.
