Dear friends I am using "Steel mate 838M" security system in my car.

It doesn't do automatic door locking (say if I forget to lock the door, it should do it automatically, aint it so?)

Could anyone help me in this issue and I dont have the user manual as well.

was it like that at the time you had it installed? It may just need to be programmed. I would advice against activating it though.

to my knowledge it doesn't lock by itself. you have to press the button. best you go to sun lanka and check with them. they are the agents for steel mate.

This is a feature. All new Steelmate systems do not have auto door locking. Only older security systems had the auto locking. However, auto arming comes by default in most systems including 838M. The auto-arming mode can be changed using a jumper in the controller unit. So, the car is armed automatically after a few seconds, and if anyone tries to open the doors, the siren will go off.

I too have installed a steelmate oneway security system by S*nLa*ka. when first couple of week, the auto lock feature works ,

but now when I forgot to lock the door, it only get beep sound and the signal light blinking. But does not lock the doors automatically.

May be have to re programmed agian...

There is small box with red LED and it has an screw and one direction was marked max while other direction was marked as min; I have no idea regarding what it is!

that is ur vibration sensor sensitivity control.. set it to max and even when a bus goes by the alarm will go off.. best to set it in the middle.. or what ever floats ur boat..

auto door lock feature only works when u use the security system.. are u talking about the auto lock feature that happens when u unlock the car and dont get in for about 10 seconds and it auto locks the car or something else..

Yes, if you use the remote to unlock the car, and within 15 seconds or so, if you do not open any doors, the doors will be automatically re-locked. However, when you shut off the engine, get out of the car & walk away, the system does not lock the doors, it just gives out a signal that the doors need to be locked. After 15 seconds, if the car is not armed, the system will automatically arm, but will not lock the doors. Auto-arming setting can be changed using a jumper in the control unit, however, there is no way to change it to auto-lock the doors AFAIK.
