Hi guys, out of Presea R10, Bluebird U13, KIA Rio and BMW E36 which is the best ? Which has the best fuel efficiency ? Which could come the cheapest ? How about the maintenance ? Which one is the best of all worlds ? I'd be really happy to hear your opinion. Thanks

Its a ridiculous comparison if you ask me.

In my opinion (SUBJECTIVE):

which is the best ? Bimmer

Which has the best fuel efficiency ? Rio

Which could come the cheapest ? R10 (pre-facelift Rio could be cheaper)

How about the maintenance ? Depends on the condition of the car. Rio is generally cheap to maintain. Dont know about the Nissans.

Which one is the best of all worlds ? Bimmer

I suggest not to go for a bimmer. Don't wanna see another bimmer ruined by someone whos looking for low ownership cost.

Crosswind, thanks. Lol. Looking for a lower cost of ownership doesn't mean that the car will be ruined. In fact one will take very good care of it. But generally what is the fuel consumption of a E36? And I have heard that the Rio is very bad when it comes to fuel burn. So aren't the R10 or U13 better ?

No machan Rios arent that bad in fuel. But expect about 10-11 km/l. Bimmer would do a bit lower owing to its size and engine. Expect around 8.

Honestly I don't know about Nissans.

Thanks bud! I would like something that has a more aerodynamic feel. Sounds like the Rio is a good deal. Afterall, it will have an English number, right ? Are there any diesel converted ones ?

Btw, you mentioned that the pre-facelift Rio could be cheaper. Are you referring to the 2002 facelift or the 2005 one ?

2002 Facelift. Never seen a diesel converted Rio.

Thanks a lot. Is that true that the original version (the "DC", pre-2002) have a very bad build quality and are quite prone to accidents ? About how much is fair for a pre-2002 one ? Are there any used post-2005 ones in market ?

Looking for something less than 1mil. Would probably be able to manage about 1.1mil if the vehicle is likely to hold a good resale value.

The EG8 looks rather dated to me. Now if an EK3 can be had at this price range, that would make a difference. The best modern looking model available for the price range while delivering the best on the rest (fuel, maintenance) seems to be the Rio. How much would be the fuel consumption of a R10 and EG8 respectively ? For usual outstation driving running at about 50kmh?

Mate for me the Eg8 looks better than the Rio.Ek3 is not within your limit. You could expect around 11-12 per/l within city limits, spares are widely availabel compared to the Rio.Second hand market wise Eg8 is leading. For me the best buy within your range is the Eg8

I'm no expert on car market prices. But IMHO, I believe that in five years, a 10-15yr old Rio will have a better resale value than an EG8 which is nearing the end of its product lifecycle. Feel free to recorrect me

The EG8 looks better than a Rio, but imo an EG8 is a pretty bad investment, considering they're quite old, over priced and are generally hacked to pieces by ricers.

if you are in some other country you are probably correct but is SL you are wrong because remember it's a honda civic in top of all that there are fan boys who love to get there hand on one and in another five years or ten years majority of sl people all ways prefer eg8 over rio and in another five years there is a very high possibility that rio will have half of its price reduced by then sadly that's how SL second hand market work. :)

If your idea is to get a YOM 2000+ English number sedan which is not too thirsty for fuel, you are pretty much stuck with three options - Rio, Accent and Wira.

If you have are flexible (such as the willingness to buy an older car), there are many other options - not just EG8. The same era (circa 1991/92) Corollas, Sunnys, Pulsars, Lancers etc. will also be available close to your budget.

Interesting thoughts. I'll give it a consideration. However, for a possible sale within an year or so, a Rio could probably be a good investment. What to do you guys think ? Any idea on how much it will cost for a post 2005 facelift Rio? Btw, what about the Accent ? How does it's fuel consumption compare to the Rio?

Unfortunately, it will be the future tax levels that will determine the resale values of all three of Civics, Rios and Accents. And I've got no idea what will happen to the future brand new selling price of the Rio, which at present is comparable to the Civic (both $15K)

Crosswind, indeed, that's the goal. Given that the Wira is now out of production, I guess it is safer to go with either the Accent or the Rio. Any idea which of these could be a better fit ? Is the Accent's build quality rather higher than the Rio?

Btw, offtopic, but the 2011 Elantra is a real looker - and it's cheaper (overseas) than the Civic or the full option Rio.

Yep agreed, but there are a few cars in stock condition,

@Pericles First time that I heard someone being so confident about it. Ever used one ? Indeed I too have narrowed the options to Accent and Rio now.

Agree. But it would be good if manage to get Good Condition "VTech" one.

@KFL:

And also we have to think that why such old EG8 & R10 etc. still cost the same as Rio

what you refer as comparatively new...

Also try Mazda Butterfly (just a clue)
