HI Guys,

I’m looking forward to buy my second car probably for next three or four years to ride(I had nissan march k11 manual). Budget is around 1.6M and my first choice is mazda BJ5(99 - 2001). I was looking for decent car in last two weeks but couldn’t find any. Some were high priced and most of them were not in good conditions.

I have found only one properly maintained MAZDA registered in 2000 for 1.6m but its a 1300 CC manual transmission. I think the price is little high for that particular modal. Owner is so fascinated about his car and i cant make my mind to bargain with him...

During my research I have found that Ford lazer is much similar to MAZDA and also it priced little below than mazda. I asked several people, but most of them are not recommending to buy a ford because if lack of parts and bad fuel economy.

Would greatly appreciate if you could share your experience/thoughts.

Thank you.

It was BJ3 and not BJ5. No air bags?

I have a ford laser...2002 brand new. Most of the Mazda parts fit the ford (Other than body panels of course).

Obtaining parts isnt much of a hassle, as there are so many places to get them from.

I dont know what you consider BAD fuel economy, but mine gets about 9.5kmpl in the city, and 13 to 14 out. I consider that bloody good :)

Overall its a very comfortable car.

Most lasers out there though are reconditioned cars that come in 1500cc / 1600cc with auto transmission.

Most of the brand new cars are manuals.

Hi SHAI

Thanks for the reply!

Yes of course. What you mentioned fuel consumptions is great  . I had in mind that would be much less than you mentioned.

I drive Ford laser BJ5 , manual doing over 12 kmpl in normal traffic condition.

It is very good car and looks better than Familia for me but it depends on your perception. As said, almost all parts are similar. No hassle in finding parts.

I bought mine for less than 1.6 M, six months back and now price might be little high.

GOOD LUCK !

Totally agree with Shai & KumaraS .

Both brands have the same engine spec, hence the fuel would not bee too different. I too prefer the Ford looks against the Mazda. With a 1.6CC you should get above 9 per L if you drive sensibly, I use to get 8.5 driving like a mad hatter.

1.6Mil for a 2000 1.3cc is dam to much - but ok for a 1.5CC. DO you want to go for a Auto or a manual ?

Personally I like the manual is more fun to drive. But looking for auto transmission because of my wife. I don't think its a good idea to drive manual car by ladies.

Yes I agree with you! If it was 1.5cc. I definitely go for it.

Yes! Ford is much better body shape over mazda. Looks good too.

Oh I'm turning Mazda to Ford

Would you please tell me difference between these two particular models...

(Model:Ghia) - http://www.autolanka.com/ad.asp?ID=53107

(Model:BJ5P) - http://www.autolanka.com/ad.asp?ID=53153

Body shape and interior are exactly same but two models?

The Ghia is the top spec model in Fords, a bit like the G Package with Toyota. So things like the interior trim maybe different. Body shape is the same.
