Hi guys, per my earlier threads, I have now updated my requirements. Since everyone says "No Korean cars" to the extent that it is almost a phobia - I don't want to buy a Korean vehicle to be later ashamed by those Japanese loving neighbours who seem to believe that they know everything about every car on earth (no offence to the educated guys here - I'm talking about your average next door neighbour ). So could you guys please help me find a Japanese vehicle (car/cab - only sedans and double cabs please) per following requirements ? And feel free to suggest Indian vehicles too since everyone I've talked with seem to be in the opinion that the Indian vehicles are as great as the Japanese.

Budget : 1mln

1. Should have an English number, and look stylish (ie- not box shaped. I'm not expecting the 2011 level aerodynamic designs, but just looking modern )

2. Should have a good enough fuel efficiency

3. Should be easy to maintain

Thanks

so you buy the vehicle based on your stupid neighbours requiremnts? :D

anyway, you can try a second hand Tata indica for that price or a brand new maruti.

as far as the jap vehicles are concerned, you will end up having a 15year old car at that budget.

OMG grow a pair dude, buy whatever you want! or if you're so scared of your neighbours opinions, move house. Maybe they'll worship you in your Accent in Monaragala.

Dude, seriously, you've been talking to some real idiots. I'd put a 20 year old jap over any car or SUV the Indians have made up to this point. Must have believed those adverts where the Japanese are looking impressed at some Indian cars. Commercial vehicles, like buses and lorries, maybe more suited for local use (no frills, easy and cheap to fix), but cars, no way. Not yet.

And also, buying a car while considering what your neighbours might think is beyond stupid. I'm not saying its wrong to look for a Jap car, but doing so coz of what your neighbours think... Would you take around a woman to your neighbours and see if they approve before getting married? Basically, who gives a sh!t?

And there are other car makers than Japan, India and Korea.

To think, people like this actually reproduce.

reading this made me sick dude..

you really wanna buy a car that will impress your neighbors

Seriously?

dude, where i live im surrounded by Rich people, Benz BMW etc..

I Never Give a Shit what they think of my ride..

grow a pair and buy a car that you like

those numb nuts arnt gonna be the person whose driving the car

and SERIOUSLY? indian cars are Better?

and Korean cars are bad?

first of all, move out from the neighborhood.

and for your real question

its gonna be hard to find a English Number, Fuel Efficient, Not Boxy looking Japanese Car for 1M

+ wasnt your budget 500,000 and your friends budget was 1.1M or something?

Sorry for going OT but got this question on my mind. :)

Pericles, do you think that a 2004 Japanese Suzuki swift is better than 2010 Indian swift ? if so,would like to know the reason.

you know.. just wondering.... :) :)

Was the Swift designed in India?

Well, this thread has gone far away from the original topic. I am not buying a car based on what my neighbours think, for that to happen I'd have to have been a super idiot. But rather, my question was why do people think so ? 9 out of 10 average car owner that I've talked to seem to believe that the Maruti 800 is a MUCH better car than the Hyundai Sonata. Is this correct ? If so, why ? Or is this solely a myth ?

And can we please discuss some possible Japanese choices ?

Agreed. A super idiot.

Maybe they were trying to sell you theirs? Make you think their car would be better? How many did you actually talk to? Did they drool a little from the side of their mouths? Walk around in circles? I'd take a Sonata over a crappy Maruti 800 (no offence owners) any day of the week.

"And can we please discuss some possible Japanese choices ?"

Good God man, you're about to spend your hard earned cash, at least be bothered to do a search, there are plenty of threads e.g.

ShintaroX, I did - and none of the listed options are curve models, but edge models. And all of them are numerical numbers and none are English. AutoLanka should consider implement a Search by Price function to the buy section.

Does anyone have fuel consumption estimates for Presea R10 and Bluebird U13?

Well that shows what your average car owner knows. You can't compare the two. Two very different cars.

And if you wanna find out some good Jap choices, buy a Sunday Hitad. Go through it, find the cars you like that are within your budget and within travelling distances, and then go check em out! It's that simple!

With your budget you should be looking to buy a car in good nick rather than hoping to find one that fills all your criteria.

Thanks, Big_D. Are there any Japanese sedans with English numbers at this price range ? I've found some wagons but no sedans.

oh for the love of god, the number doesnt matter

whats important is weather the car is in good nick

Schiffer, I agree. What I'm really looking for is a car that has a curvy look rather than an edgy one. Any idea on the average fuel consumption of the Bluebird U13?

Is there anyone in here who's able to influence Auto Lanka to implement a price filter and sort function? This is a real need.

I've used a Presea R10 for a few years. Got about 8 or 9Km/Ltr at best, but that's not bad for a car of that size with a carburetor engine.

'KFL',

In my life I have used UK USA German till 1979 and Japanese till year 2004 then tried Chinese Later went in for Indian.

I suggest you to go for Indian new car. As I find they are quite good for your price range.

If Japanese car that will be more than 10 years old you will have to spend most of your time in repair shops.

I have found two classified ads from the same person for a 2008 Toyota Axio and a 2008 Toyota Prius. Both have the price mentioned for an amount between 1m and 1.5m. No mention of a lease. Why could this be ? Stolen vehicles ? Or there probably is a lease to be paid ?
