FYI I joined AL in 2006 but I was more or less inactive till Jan 2011. So I'm virtually a noob here too. Nobody treated me badly, simply cos I didn't ask dumb questions and I didn't say silly things like "I don't wanna buy a Korean ride cos my neighbor told me so".

I believe there are many in the forum who has a similar experience.

As previously mentioned, Oz gets a small Indian-made car,the Suzuki Alto. ANCAPP gives the vehicle a 4 star safety rating based on testing of the the European airbag equipped model which, unlike the Australian supplied vehicle, does not have air-curtains. The Australian vehicle has 2 airbags, 2 side airbags + 2 side curtain airbags. I think the most expensive Australian Alto also has stability control (this is getting to be madatory for new cars here) and all have ABS. Anyway, the extra safety kit could lift the vehicle above that original 4 star rating. But it's the same Indian-made structure as anywhere else.

In the crash testing, the vehicle scored 10/16 for a Frontal Offset collision and 14/16 for a Side Impact and the comment was made that the passenger compartment held its shape well in a FOC. Major weakness revolved around whacking your knees against the dash shelf and the design being unfriendly in a pedestrian impact. If anybody was interested, the crash report is here:

So how bad are Indian cars in the real world, out on the road as opposed to being banged around in the test labs? Is there a possibility that, like the Korean industry, the Indian product is on the move in quality terms?

I don’t know how safe the Martui are in SL. About 4 years ago I saw an accident between maruti 800 & a Skoda Sedan. First car I saw was the maruti It front bumper was on the ground the Frond side windows were gone (both the driver & the passenger) & the driver was inside trying to fix some plastic (I’m not joking here). I was thinking man this is must be bad accident then I saw the Skoda it only had a scratch on the front bumper.

So I don’t think Maruti is great. They have long way to go still.

I think Alto is better car compare to 800 but he is looking for a car for a Mil

With all the info you've got by now, you should be an expert. All your questions have been answered before, respectfully. Now asking them again on a different thread is asking for a bit of leg-pulling.

well dude, no offense but the questions you ask are pretty stupid, all your questions are based on your "neighbors thoughts"

and common, you really wanna compare any vehicle to a Indian Piece of Sh**??

i being an Indian agree's that Indian cars are SH**!

Well, what I want is to find out the best car choice for 1M and that's what all this is about. So please share your thoughts on this.

As mentioned many times already, the three things that I'm looking for are fuel economy, good resale value and a contemporary look.

I'm not looking forward to buying something that looks like a 2012 Altima for 1M, but rather something that has a 21st century-ish look and not like a 1980s box shape model.

The Japanese choices that are left to me seem to be the EG8, Presea R10 and Bluebird U13. And I tend to like the EG8 better, because I've heard that it is better overall than the other two, although it looks kinda too sporty. But aren't the likes of EG8 likely to get quite devalued in say, three years from now, given that they'll be almost 25yrs at that time ?

1. if your already made up your mind about the EG8 just be a man and go for it

2. we have given you many CURVY cars, Hyundai's and Kia's but you DON'T like 'em

3. what makes you think that the u13 and the presea wont depreciate?

4. u have a tough luck getting a good car in your terms and condition for your budget anyway

and btw i thought your 3 requirements was fuel economy, curvy looks and English numbers to impress neighbors?

ShintaroX, Schiffer, get your points. I'd like to know your thoughts about this one. A Hyundai Elantra, 2002 version with ABS (2001 ones didn't have I think), also 1.25m. http://autolanka.com/ad.asp?ID=53781

You're gonna have to get a little better at figuring out when people are being sarcastic or joking around. Little tip - if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is!

KFL, don't get stuck in this analysis paralysis! Go out and buy something already, otherwise by the time you get around to it, the prices will have changed, the $ would have crashed, the next world war would have started and finished, looting and mayhem would be rampant, people would be using their body parts as a means of trading, Master Don and Pericles will be in hybrids and you will still be on this goddam, never-ending, headache-inducing, circle-traveling thread!

Topic Starter Mr.KFL,

This thread has given you all + and - points of cars you wanted. My personal opinion is the best is a Indian car and their parts are cheap A*W Service is good.
