Hi Guys,

I'm about to place an order for a kia sportage. Considering getting the panaromic sunroof option.

Would like to know if the glass roof will be an issue in our climate ?

Not to mention falling coconuts, mangoes, puwak, and god knows what else....

Ripper had a polos fall on the windscreen once...

I had a kottamba fall on my roof and made a small dent that never went away.

Advantages of having panoramic sunroof - neighbor envy, showing off, when u want to sell off the sportage you can add a premium to the price

Disadvantages: Lets in heat, lets in dust, lets in all the debris including kos polos, rubber seals/beadings can get damaged over time, electric opening mechanism may add to your maintenance cost, can also cause water leakage depending on the quality of rubber they use (will take a few years to see the signs), you will have to make an extra effort to keep it clean.

Verdict - depends on what you are going to use the sportage for.

1. if you plan to have fun with it, go to nuwara eliya often with your head out of the car and run the car to the ground, get the sunroof version (basically if you got too much money and not worried about petrol and resale and all that).

2. if you are planning to make a profit out of the car after 3 years and if your sole aim is that, then get the sunroof but never open it outdoors. if you plan to keep it parked for 3 years with the sole aim of making a buck like many permit people do, yeah sunroof can add a premium (depends on your sales pitch and the car prices at that time).

3. if you plan to use it as a normal car, drive around in colombo and keep it neat and tidy, you are better off without the sunroof

Recently I saw a 2007 Geely with a sunroof. All the beadings have melted away and the sunroof was sealed off with silicone and duct tape to keep the car from becoming a bucket :D

would honestly love to have a panaromic sunroof... but depends on the purpose though, I travel around to country, and there have been so many situations where I wished I had a sunroof. specially wanting to take snaps of leopards..

Machan, the panoramic sun roof is if I'm not mistaken a little different from the standard sun roof in the sense it spans the whole roof. Sometimes only a bit of can be opened (maybe none at all). And the way it seals etc would be slightly different to a standard sun roof.

What I am saying is some of the cons of a standard sunroof might not apply in the same way to a panoramic sunroof.

I have seen cars with a panoramic roof option where the windscreen just seems to extend further back over the roof but I don't remember whether you had the option to open it at all (so no chance of it leaking).

in case of the sportage, one part of the sunroof opens. but you are right, it spans the whole roof (almost)
