Even I thought that, but recently went to see the new X1 and the 320d brought for the permit, and seen them right next to each the X1 was looking much prettier.. but its only slightly higher off the ground than the 320d.

Also from the rear the X1 deff looks good. newer been a fan of the BMW 3 series tail lamps except for the coupes...

Best looking out of the lot is the petrol A4 in white... thats a head turner!

I'm no bimmer expert but for me this is a no brainer.

The trouble is X1 is neither a car nor an SUV. Those who want to go for a car would go for a car and those who want to go for an SUV would prefer the X5 or something.

X1 may look nice inside the showroom, but ever seen the X1 on the road? I've seen a few permit imports and everytime I see them, it makes me go wtf...

U mean Audi A4????

Does the X1 is a car or a SUV

According wikipedia, its classified as a station wagon.

Interesting to note that the E90 (320d) is assembled all over the world but outside Germany, the X1 is assembled only in India and Mexico. That ought to give you an indication of the target markets of these two products.

wht happens if u'r neither male nor female :angry-smiley-048:

and definitely the Audi A4 is the best looking car for the permit without any dought and the petrol one has a great 1.8T engine which inspite of been turbo doesn't have lag at low rpms

great power and good economy cosidering the 141s also do only 8-10kmpl in the city

As a ardent Bimmer owner and fan Im absolutely disappointed with what prestige did with the 320d and the X1 under the permit scheme. The 2011 320d / X1 under the permit is just a skeleton (in bmw terms). The only options u get are power shutters, multifunction steering. You don't even get climate control ac or alloy wheels. WTF? Well some might argue saying that it makes it affordable to many aspiring owners to buy one brand new. But believe me, no BMW lover will be happy with the product you get. They are just ruining these vehicles second hand market, when they go head to head with their euro rivals that come fully loaded.

The older e46 320d the came under the scheme were comparatively fully loaded. But i guess the weakening LKR could also be blamed.

Fully agree with you..I was totally disappointed with the 320D a colleague imported on this scheme. Yes, it carries a BMW badge, but that's about it.

The two cup holders which flush into the dash was fancy though :-)

IMHO the best option for some one going for an E90 now or in the future is to go for one that was either imported from England or a brand new prior to say 2010. Because even 318i's that were offered by prestige for 8.5 mil or something a few months ago are also pretty basic.

Yeah totally disappointing with the options - however the diesel engine is a beast. The other good thing is that some options can be retrofitted - ie front & rear pdc - but retrofitting the digital climate control system will be a bit of a pig - but is doable.
