Hi

My friend got 2000 EK3 few weeks ago and suddenly the engine temperature was gone high. So after that we filled with water and noticed, every day the water level is reducing. However we got to know previous owner had replaced the cylinder gasket. Will this water bubble cause of gasket leak? i can cinfirmed there is nor water leak on the radiator and any other places,

Please advise me

Do you notice dark sediment in the water ? There is a possibility that the head gasket has given up again probably because of engine overheating. Better get it checked asap. Also get the radiator checked and cleaned. The head gasket failure might be a result of overheating though the cause of the overheating still needs to be found and resolved to stop it happening again. Check for faulty radiator cap, blocked radiator, blocked valves, proper radiator fan operation etc.

usually air bubbles say a bad gasket. since you have mentioned about overheating. this further supports the conclusion.

water bubbles coming out of the system as a result of boiling water does not necessarily mean that's a gasket leak. Gasket leak can be identified, if continous bubbles coming out of even when the engine or coolant temperature is low.

Sudden temperature rise with presence of bubbles even when the system is not heated, is not a good combination and usually it's a gasket failure or a compression leak to the water channel inside the block (i've seen a damaged cylinder liner causing this in one example)

as Don said, find the root cause of the issue without running it for any longer.

Sira,

According to your post with what do you fill up the radiator. All new cars if you use tap water or well water there can be problems they are build to use coolant which is available at petrol filling stations or motor spare parts shops.

Air burbles from the radiator means there is a compression leak to water jackets on the cylinder head or engine block. From the gasket normally this happens on the 2&3rd cylinder middle of the engine block if the head do not seat properly with the gasket due to overheating.

You will have to dismantle the engine head and examine the head is correctly fitting the engine block. Some times there can be a head crack which will lead to your problem.Try once with a new gasket before that get your engine head put on the facing machine and get the correct the face of the head if not the new gasket will too have the same problem.

Before all above find out from the previous owner what was the problem to change the gasket and what the work done on the engine head before replacing the gasket when this gasket change was done.

I spoke to Honda ahents and they told me not to face the head as this specially made for high temp.

Load of BS :) All heads are specially made for high temperatures using special alloys, but that does not change the fundamental point that the gasket needs a clean even surface to bond. It might not warp but still needs to be cleaned and refaced.

'The Don',

I agree with you.

When a engine head is refaced not much of metal from the head is removed only the cleaning and little bit of leveling.

my friend had to replace engine.

we have noticed the 3rd piston was not working on idle, and when we unplug the injector cable there was no change. so we open the head

the gasket was replaced with carb model and there was play on pistons 1,2 and 4. and when we open the head water on the piston 3 too. so finally checking with all issue, replace the engine with d15b than d15z4. all issues was gone and fuel consumption also very good. so who ever replaced the gasket and face the head was not done correctly. so my advice is for all honda users , do not mess your car giving to MAKA BAS, go for qualified person

I'm sorry to hear that Sira, and yes it's sad that good workmen are so hard to come by. This is also why I also urge people to stick with their original setups and not try to make improvised fixes or modifications. The engine head for the EFI and Carb models are different and as a result the gaskets are different. You just have to use the original replacement part.

Also since the gasket has been replaced before ask him to check the cooling system to make sure that it does not happen again.
