Hi Mazda owners,

I'm having a really hard time looking for a mechanic with proper knowledge about Mazda 3. Please share the places where mechanics specialized on Mazda's can be found.

And share your experience with these places, which will be very helpful to other 3 owners.

Well I know 2 places CM and Ma&na...

But CM is famous for bad service and Ma%na has very unfair charges :(

Thanks,

DFly

well those are the two famous joints and didn't know that mazna was expensive.

Do you have a particular case where the prices were unreasonable?

Well I don't have personal experience at both of these places as I'm new to Mazda. This is all based on what I have heard.

One time they asked one of my friends 80+ for a particular part. But he was able to find the same part from another place for something like 25.

Likewise have heard many cases.

Ma%na has very unfair charges :(

Have to agree with this to a certain extent.

I have been doing all my servicing and repair work from them since i bought my mazda and i was thoroughly satisfied. But lately. they seem to be quoting unreasonable prices at times. I replaced my front shocks from them about a month ago and they quoted 9500 only for the shock mounts which i think is a bit high.

What really bothers me is the quality of their service. It used to be so good. The owner himself used to personally check each and every car which come for repairs. He would check the entire car, not just the problem which the customer describes. He would report even the slightest of niggles to the owner. Even after the repair, he would go on a test run and check whether everything was done properly by his mechanics. But lately, this has changed.

He won't go on a test run even when we request saying that it's not required. Not sure whether there has been any attitude change of late or whether it's due to the increasing number of customers.

I've had 4 jobs with Ma$n@ so far and all 4 times the owner inspected the vehicle at the end of the repair and of course took a test drive after suspension repairs. The last time was about 2 months back. But the prices are definitely out of the line with certain (repeat) customers getting a better deal than the newer ones. One suggestion would be to bring your own parts - but that tends to make you very unpopular with the owner :)

We need one more big player in Mazda servicing and repairs and looking forward to other experiences from other places by the members.

Yah.. There should be a competitor to Maz%a...

Anyway CM is behaving like they are brain dead, when they can easily capture the market like Stafford did with Honda's.

I’m not going to defend Mazna here; at the same time I do understand that there can be various scenarios where some would feel cheated.

When it comes to parts, yes there can be variances ….. for e.g I would be needing to replace my AC compressor in another 6 /8 months so I inquired about the price of one.

There are 3 engine blocks (1.5CC VVT ) at his place, the average cost of compressor is apx 8-9500/-

However there is a engine that has done 20K whilst the other have one over 80K thus if I want the compressor from the engine black that has done 20K, he would ask apx 13- 15K and not the above low price. Therefore there can be situations that some second hand parts can be more expensive in his place compared to another.

The other would be on generic parts where you have the genuine OEM part and Malaysian /Taiwan stuff… There too you would find a big difference as there are several variations even amongst the duplicate – (Good duplicates & really crappy ones) In my previous car had a issue with a rear link which went bad within a short period but he replaced it FOC as the supplier was not good.

Some advise : If you need to do a service/ major repair on a Saturday visit the place as early as possible ( not really early say 8.30 am) If you need to do a repair job on a weekends, see if you can do it towards Wednesday/ Thursday as Monday is a holiday, Tuesday generally gets blocked.

Hope it helps …… anyway cannot blame for looking around for an alternative solution – after all cars do come with a spare wheel for a reason , hence same should apply

Thanks for the replay mate. 13 - 15K is acceptable for a good compressor. But the usual case is that they will ask for 20+ if a new guy goes there. :(

Maz%a proved this theory again...

One of my friends went there to get a small body part few weeks back and they requested an unacceptable value for the part..

Then we went to Carmart and they offered the same part (Unpacked genuine) for a price 1/4 of what Maz%a requested.

Maz%a suckz.... Never go there!

I think this "specialists" thing is a BS in SL.

If you have a good mechanic, have a decent knowledge in auto stuff in general...it's not too much of a hassle to maintain a Mazda

I drive a ford truck, not the easiest to get parts for...never been to this mazna joint to this date... But i have no issues attending to day to day repairs

Most parts i've needed were available from panchi shops. either rainbow or asiri. Some bits are generic so not much of trouble finding those.

I've had excellent experience with Rainbow fellows so far and they are pretty helpful :)

I've now developed a small routine for my Mazda, and tend to agree with Ripper.

Asiri or Rainbow for the the parts (cheaper or on par with Car Mart for the exact same part + better service - Asiri infact has full parts history of my car in their computer, from the 1st owner onwards) and my old time mechanic for the job. He's now done a few Mazda's including 2 Axelas, so he has got the hang of Mazda specific nuances.

This plus regular servicing should keep the car tip-top, I've had the malaise of postponing repairs due to time and money constraints before and learnt my lesson well. The 15k repair today will cost you 40k two months down. This is true for any vehicle but more so for Mazda's where parts are expensive.

Hi,

I know this is a really old thread but I need some help from you guys. I searched through autolanka Mazda threads but could not find an answer.

I have a 2008 Axela and there's a problem with my AC. It suddenly stopped cooling, now only the blower works. I went to Mazna as I usually do (for service and maintainance, and they're quite expensive on labour charges), but they don't do AC, so they referred me this other guy who as a shop in Divlapitiya area who does AC work for Mazna. After inspecting, they said there's a gas leak in my AC cooler and M**na quoted 55k and 2-3 days for the job. 25k for the cooler and the rest for labour and other stuff. I checked with another place and they gave the same diagnosis, but quoted 30k, although these guys do not seem to be experts in Mazda (there weren't any Mazdas around) so I'm a bit worried about the quality of the work. Apparently this repair needs to be done by removing the whole dashboard to get access to the cooler, so, in my opinion, someone who knows what they're doing should do this, right? So my question is, is this a reasonable price from Mazna? and if not, is there anyone here who has done this from anywhere else for a better price? Colonial Mortors or Carmart or any other place?

Thanks in advance!

When you say cooler - do you mean the AC evaporator unit behind the dash? If so, I have a 2004 Axela that has more or less the same issue and I have been holding off doing it because that car rarely gets driven these days and frankly I didn't have time to even take it to the garage myself. 25k from Mazna on a genuine evaporator sounds about right, my wife's been offered a Thai duplicate brand new for 17k at a well known AC shop near Jubilee Post, Nugegoda.

It's really a PITA to access the evaporator and the dash removal replacement process takes about 10 man hours. So I would expect anyone to charge about 15k for this, including smaller parts. 30-35k would be a good price for the whole thing IMO. The Jubilee Post place I mentioned has apparently done the job on a couple of Mazda's (which doesn't make them experts of course) but since this dash removal procedure is also there in Honda's etc too - I don't think i this should matter too much if they are professional otherwise. It would be good to be there in person at least for the assembly process though. The price upcharge from Mazna is on par with their usual pricing, and might be good to pay for the peace of mind if your car is new and is in immaculate condition.

Sorry I don't have any more input from other parties you mentioned, but if I get to do this job soon - will keep updated here. Do let us know if you have any updates too.

Thanks for the quick response!

Yes, it is the unit behind the dash. "Cooler" is the term the mechanic said. I too am holding off the repair for the time being, but my issue is what happens to the interior, which btw is in very good condition, when driving without the A/C in Colombo. And the gas leak is significant because when checked with N2, the pressure drops by about 50% within 15-30 mins. So no A/C whatsoever, and I'll have to do this soon.

The labour charges they said is around 15k, but they also said something about compressor fluids (not sure what this is), and gas, and a full cleaning and servicing of the system would account for the rest. But if I get a genuine evaporator unit for 25k, + 15k for labour will be around 45k noh? So given Mazna's expertise do you think this extra is reasonable? The car is in good condition but isn't new. Sorry I forgot to mention this earlier, it's a 2008 and done 137k km. I'm the 3rd owner, but apparently the evaporator is still the factory fitted one according to the other A/C guy.

And yes, for all my previous repairs I have been there in person, so I'll be there when the reassembly is done. The main concerns I had was the dash removal and reassembling process and of course the price, so thanks for the input on that! :) and of course the concern if some other part failing or something else going wrong after the repair because all the stories people say about A/C problems.

I'll post any updates on the matter when I do this.
