What?? And you BOUGHT the car from them? Sounds like a dodgy outfit to me as the VIN number needs to stay with the car till it gets scrapped. I'd never buy a car that had its VIN removed / tampered with. You should check whether you can report this to the Sri Lankan Consumer Affairs Authority and do so at the earliest opportunity.

Anyways to answer your question: The VIN is listed on multiple places, if its unavailable via the most accessible spot at the base of the windscreen then check for a sticker located on the driver's jamb (the lower part of the B-pillar, that is visible when you open the driver's door.

If its not there on either of those spots then check:

- On the door jamb/door post of the passenger

- On the engine itself (machined pad on front of engine)

- On the car's firewall

- In the left-hand inner wheel arch

- On the steering wheel/steering column

- On the radiator support bracket

It is very strange why the VIN is removed. surely your JAAI docs (if available) and other documents should have the VIN detail.

On the Prius VIN is stamped on a plate at the bottom, drivers-side edge of the windshield. basically the plate is mounted on the dash, and can beviewed through the windshield. Another sticker is located on the driver's door jamb too.Check both out.

You can go back to car dealer and check,
