Hey ...

Ive not got plans this weekend and decided to work on something at home, ive decided to Paint my rims. Im thinking of changing the colour. Its currently black and ive thought of using dot4 brake oil to remove the paint as some say it helps to strip away paint, is this true and does it really work? If no what other chemical can i buy in order to strip away paint from the Rims?

Also i will have to purchase primmer and Clear Coat, does anyone know a place where i can buy this stuff in spray cans? I would like to experiment at home.

Thanks in advance

Standard primer and clear coat are available as TOA sprays. But you really need heat resistant paint for rims and not sure if they sell those in cans in SL.

You might need to look for heat resistant paint. The Dulux shop in Bamba should have.

Thanks alot, could you tell me the whereabouts please or at-least a land mark? is it on galle road?

Actually the correct thing to do would be to use paint stripper (remover to clean off the old paint) Fill up any dinks or damage with conventional filler and then sprey it over with Etch primer which would ensure that your paint bonds onto the rims and then paint over to the desired colour and then laquer it.

Cheers,

'NadriquE',

Contact "Sarath" he will come home and do it for you his telephone number is 0719297574.

Or transport your rims to his home he will do the job, if not he will have to transport his compressor to your home.

Toa has high heat paint in the can. About 750 a can. It's avaiable at most auto paint stores and some hardware stores (I was surprised to find a few cans at the little hardware store near my house).

Ran into the hardware stores to get some Gold paint... They had the Toa high heat paint ... got a Gold for the rims and Black (for the exhaust headers)... painted the Radiator Grill, rear view mirror arm and exhaust tip in gold and im loving the finish :smilie_liebe9: ... tomorrow will work on the rims...

A quick question:

is it ok to spray the paint on top of the existing paint??? I think my rims have been powder coated? would this be a problem???

Would powder coating come off when an ordinary paint stripping liquid is used???

Try on one spot if it is not bubbling wate till it dry. Then you can do it your self.

Power coting is done inside a chamber with powder is spray electrostatic charge remains on the powder and the item is heated to dry.

Normaly what we do is scrape the powder corted unit before paint same again.

Thanks alot your info is very helpful.

Wait so when you say "scrape the powder corted unit" it has nothing to do with a paint stripping liquid right???

Well scrapping the rims sounds like hectic work, i think i willl just spray some decals on it over the powder coated surface.

I love the powder coated finish are their powder coating workshops in Sri Lanka?
