Yes. It can. In fact any car can, have seen plenty of Pugs, BMWs and other cars make it to Jaffna and back. 5 years it may not have made it past Omanthai... but today it can... :)

I am planning on a drive of epic proportions in my Alfa to Jaffna and back through the middle of the country to Dondra head .. one of these days.... :)

I will let you know how it goes. By the time you get your JDM Assassinating ass over here, you will know for sure... :)

was thinking the same. i mean getting to jaffna in a car. If you take the A9, except for a few patches...most of the road was in pretty good nick. i'd say some stretches were bloody awesome. And chances are now things are even better.

But i do have a strong feeling our "young" friend here is just a little kiddo overly excited about visiting here and showing off a bit :)

So yeah...Zambo No.2 indeed :P

i just saw that myself!! lol i think he's misspelt his name too! shouldn't it be Thurairasa? not ThurairaRAsa?

i lift my drink to that mate, we sure did try. and watchman spelt it out for him. but still no somehow it feels as if we're speaking different languages!

i'll reserve a bed in the ICU for when this bloke lands in colombo and the culture shock hits...

Thought the same thing Doc. The common tamil name will be Thurairasa.

Kuhan,

Get a nice EG 8 minus the rice part because you might have trouble with ground clearance. If you are just visiting SL and want a car, renting a car might be a better option. And trust me, there are NO sports cars in Jaffna. Mostly people have vans. You might also come across some Sunnys, Corollas, Marutis and Civics. If you really want a car, go for the EG 8.

and whis is better and faster?Mazda RX7/NISSAN TRAD SUNNY RZ-1/HONDA CIVIC EG8

thanks for helping and I do mean valvettithurai komisiripala

Ah.. the birth place of Prabakaran....

Actually, come to think of it there were a lot of high end vehicles stolen from Colombo and sent there so there should be some mechanics who worked on these...

No offence Carbon, but that statement is retarded. Jaffna has been under the government control since 1996.

Carbon, part of my family is from velvettithirai and trust me it's a very well cleared area! The vehicles lifted were mostly suv's. And no mechanics worked on those. They didn't last that long. You find them in heaps all over nanthikadal. No one stole an rx7.

And I know the place carries that racial stigma but here's a corker: I'm Sinhalese. Food for thought, eh? ;)

yep...i dont think having low slung vehicles was in style during ltte era :) they smuggled monteros, prados and the likes and also double cabs, jeeps and stuff. Also vans, trucks etc. Not so many cars for pretty obvious reasons

But from what i've heard, there were great mechanics in ltte. they were only good with older tech more mechanical stuff. dont think they had the infrastructure or the skills to handle newer gen electronic stuff.

Buses don't have body kits. And "without a scrape" is a BIG assumption on your part. Also, you need to be able to understand what people are saying. If you can't understand a few simple things like what we said, then its useless talking to you.

This is stupid. Its like talking to a person who uses the same words but has given them his own meanings. I'm pretty close to calling troll. Or someone who is too young to actually drive having stars in his eyes. Either way, looking not worth my time.

Kuhan,

All the guys posted in this thread tried their level best to help you ,including komi. but I dont know why that you dont understand the straight forward facts given by them.My advice to you is first come to SL and experience the country for a while. If you are so desperet for a car, rent a one for a short perioud. Then you will realize what we are telling you throught. Going via a bus and having your own car is two different stories mate!. i too, curious to know your age! :)

Dear people-who-are-looking-to-rent-vehicles-to-tourist,

If someone named Kuhan James Thurairarasa ever comes to you to rent a car tell them that your vehicle is in the garage and not available for rent. Do not give him the keys if you love your vehicle!

Bingo! There ya go...yoood get yerself into a nice bit of Lanka Holden Stateman kit fer that sorta money. Suit ya right down to the ground a Stateman wood, James. Plenty a ground clearance, easy to fix up in Jaffna (every boutique will av a water pump or a gasket set out the back when ya need one an all that BMC and Rootes and Vauxxxxxxxie experience floating around up there will handle the spanner work, no problems). And the chicks will love the room in the back seat when ya take em for a moonlight cruise out ta Casuarina. Plenty of room to rock 'n roll, eh. Mom won't be too happy, tho. :-) She'll likely want to cut your rambutans off! Anyway, if ya want a bit a body-kit on the vehicle, well av a natter to one of the guys down the Fisherman's Co-op and they'd likely be able to knock up something groovy for ya and the car - they're real whizzes at all that fibreglassing and stuff. Maybe a bit of a spoiler on the back and an airdam up the front, so cool.. An don't worry about short journeys like 500k or so, the old Statsie will just gobble it up fer you. How's that all for a bitta good AL advice. An free, too. How nice is that?
