Question

Hi guys

I got a 2007 L200 warrior. The fuel consumption on city is about 8 km/l and out side city its about 9 - 9.5 km/L.

I am using IOC extramile. Every one i ask who has a 4 x 4 say that they do about 9- 10 km/l on city.

Is the high fuel consumption purely because of the type of fuel i use? or because of another menchical problem?.

If it is a mechanical problem where can i get it checked?

sam

yeah it has a 4D56 DiD engine. I have done a lot to improve my driving style, but cannot get it over 8. yes some one can argue that 8 - 9 km/l is only about 1 but at the end of it it adds upto to about loosing 50 - 60 km/tank.

What about the fuel used ?, recentley i met one of my friends who is a petrol station owner he says that IOC extramile has a high sulphur content?

As far as I know the 4D56 and the DiD are two different engines. The 4D56 has a conventional diesel pump while the DiD refers to direct injection diesel so has a common rail fuel diesel injection system. The DiD system is obviously more efficient but more sensitive to low quality fuel.

A 1KM/L difference in mileage can be simply attributed to driving style more than anything else. And since non of these vehicles are brand new, each has aged slightly differently depending on how they were maintained, inherent issues with internal components so they will return slightly different efficiency figures.

be Enlightened. If you ask from a friend he will definitely tell you adding 1km or 2 more than their actual consumption.I think this is basically because of your driving style. If you are happen to get like 5km/l then ya some mechanical problem n u should be worried.search google for good driving style for maximum fuel efficiency. Then check your consumption.

When one says city driving there could be little differences in the traffic situations. E.g. Battaramulla to Fort at 7-8 a.m. and 8-9 a.m. could be two different scenarios. So a 1 kmpl difference is quite possible.

In my personal experience I get 1 kmpl during my daily commute during school holidays.

This could even be due to your tyre type/size/ pressure, no of short commutes instead of one or two longer ones. Time of the day, in afternoons more pressure on the a/c.

I agree with jdnet if you are so worried about 1 kmpl get a prius or use the bus

Think your calculation is wrong... first are you correctly reading the consumption at each tank full ? Best or the only way is to top up and calculate the difference til the next top up Vs the KM done during this period. Say you do 2000 Kms per month the additional cost of the 1kmpl difference will be only Rs 3,000/=.

Btw is it a auto ? if so there is nothing wrong with the vehicle or the type of fuel..

Sulfur Contents...

Ceypetco Normal Diesel = 3000ppm

IOC Xtramile = 3000ppm (With Some additives doing I don't know what)

Ceypetco Super Diesel = 500ppm

If you have a common rail engine, use Super Diesel or you will ruin your injectors and pump..Super Diesel will give you a bit less mileage per liter of fuel than normal, but you have to make a decision.. Pay few bucks extra at the petrol station or pay a lot more at the auto shop and at the mechanic for injectors and pumps.

PS: UK is one of the countries with best quality fuels so cars which are made for euro standards and Imported to SL require cleaner fuel to maintain their emissions. You can damage your exhaust system by using crappy fuel too ...

Why will super diesel give you less mileage? Incidentally UK fuel is certainly not that great either, certainly not Jap standard but SL is probably still worse.

Sorry for the delay Don,

Yes, Super diesel gives you less mileage The more it's refined the more the fuel looses its energy while it's burning. This is not related to having more octane or Cetane in fuel, but then usually when you go for a higher standard in diesel, you get more refined fuel with less carbon. Less energy the fuel's got, less economy..this is similar to having E10 petrol (10% ethanol) they mix ethanol to make the fuel burn better and make it cheaper, but Ethanol's got less energy so you get less mileage out of it...also another example using Vegetable oil as diesel..you can run an old diesel car with no problems at all, but then you get less mileage compared to diesel because its more refined and less carbon in Vegetable oil.

I hope you will not misunderstand me. Although your post was a belated reply post to the Moderator.

You give a very clear explanation how Diesel fuel on a IC Engine, it is very educative for modern day motorists.

Many thanks form me for your post. I got myself educated about Diesel how it works on a IC Engine form your post.

Because I always a gasoline engines Automobile user. Once I had a new Diesel van I got fed up with the performance.

Thank you for your kind words Sylvi and you are most welcome. I'm glad my words helped you to learn something..by the way, If you started to work on new common-rail diesel engines you will see how much potential they have as powerful economical and low emission engines..I'm sure if you buy a vehicle with a turbo diesel CR-engine..you won't be fed up with it's performance at all...

Do yourself a favour. Sell the truck. Buy a prius and hypermile ok?
