Carroll Shelby, the man who transformed the American auto industry, has died at age 89. He passed away yesterday at Baylor Hospital in Dallas. His cause of death was not disclosed.

He was always known for reinventing the automobile and creating monsters of cars such as the Shelby Cobra. Shelby is also releasing the Shelby 1000, a Mustang with over 1000hp that joins the 200mph club.

Carroll Shelby will be missed immensely in the automotive world and our condolences go out to his family.

Update: Shelby had been in the hospital for several weeks, suffering from pneumonia.

RIP sir! Another great man meets his maker!!!!

What a legacy to leave behind!!! Too bad modern day designers are not as hands on as they used to be.

Craft is long forgotten and quick turn around, least effort and cost efficiency has take the lead these days.

These are the greats who worked with passion and made great things happen!!!

Fun fact - Way before the Mustangs and Cobras,Shelby started his racing and tuning career in an MG TC like mine.That particular car sold for a cool half a million dollars a few years back.

He was one of those dyed in the wool car tuners who can wring out more horsepower from a lawnmower and win races and make it look good.

heard the news on live @ 55 on my way home. I could swear the news reader referred to him as she <_<

those jokers are crazy. during the recent tsunami episode, they were flaunting an ipad and saying how they are using the latest technology to get most accurate updates! Jeez!
