I usually go to this so called 'car detailing specialist' down Wasala Road,Dehiwela for service and detailing and I am quite friendly with the guys working there. When I visited them recently for service one of the guys told me that he can give me engine oil for half the price, in its original packing.Later on when i asked him how it is possible and after giving him a tip after my service was done I was told that they do not do the oil change for some vehicles and mostly this happens to vehicles where the driver(not the owner) comes for service etc and many of us just relax at the lounge while they do the job.I was surprised to hear this and just wanted to share it.

think of a poor lady ..telling us when we go to buy the vehicle that all services have been done at correct intervals......what a life.

i am just assuming an older lady who does not know much about technical stuff......(.no offense to anyone ) :speechless-smiley-004:

Members,

Once they had a service man who used to recondition old oil filter by the method he had formulated reversing the direction of oil with diesel oil. in a tank pressurized with air and forced in to the filter he was caught with this equipment, it used to give a clean filter after 1 bottle of diesel. he used altogether three bottles of Diesel and kick out of the service station. He normally do not return the old filter.

that's a good point mate.

I also never check that, but i can feel the difference of the engine with new oil. Since the car is little old, and not so sound proof it's possible. But i don't think it's possible in new cars as those are sound proof .

I remember , i could catch such thing when i was using bike.

From the first start i knew that oil haven't changed and you won't believe it's the head office of the bajaj local dealers.

I raised the hell, and lot of people even the place manager also came to the place.and challenged me to prove it.then they drained the oil in front of all, and dark black oil came out.matter solved, mechanic begged pardon saying it was a mistake.

I learned the lesson, and i never trust any place unless i see. . . . .

Just curious about this. A few years back my father changed his oil and on the next oil change the guys at the service station noticed that the filter was in fact an old one. It apparently had a sticker or something on the top where a hole was drilled to clean it up. The filter in question was bought from and installed by the service station that changed the oil.

Not sure about the truth behind this thread, but, the practice of returning cars to the owner without doing and services that were pad for is not uncommon. This happens even in the U.S. I remember watching a news clip on youtube where the news station sent in a car with hidden cameras and had asked the place to change the transmission oil amung other things. When the car was returned, the footage revealed that they had not touched it.

This is really bad and it does happen in other countries as well once saw a UK documentary where they fixed hidden cams and gave cars to cowboy mechanics to repair and they purposely replaced more parts than needed and messed up big time in some other cases

we should name and shame these places so that they will improve their service

After I did a company service at a car dealer, and inspected the bill they haven't added the price of the filter to the bill,

I went to confess it, and save a poor mechanic from being accused of not billing it when i found that they didn't actually replace it because they didn't have oil filters in stock. And I had to again go and fix the filter

Once I send a vehicle for service at a place, where they kept the oil lid open and sent it back,

the oil lid was luckily not lost and what they did for consumption was to give it an engine wash,

So be very careful about the lid,

Now I take it to a service station well known to me,

Rather than the places with big names they let me do what ever I want,

So I 1st change the oil and filters and then tell them to drop me home while they do the cleaning stuff(which takes time).

This way I know that the essentials are properly done.

I agree with Bugatti,

Sylvi this would be a very good opportunity for you to use your friendship with Kle@nP@rk and tell them to come explain their side of the story on if there is a truth to this (or a possibility). Its true that the top management might not know of this incident, still they should know the process-flow to know if there's room for such a loophole.

I think most of guys who work here is not much professional.

this is not a good place you to park the car & go away. Around a year ago I did so for a very small paint job & could not collect the car following day due to my personnal matter. When I went there to collect the car after three days, it did not start. Another guy inspected & said ditributor has gone. So replaced. Still can't start. then said ecu has fault. I did replaced as there's no solution. I'm pretty sure they have removed them. because the car was fine before park it there. & real beauti was when he was telling my ECU fault, he started my car by replacing ECU of a same model car which had parked there for another reason (its owner was not there). How we can guarant there professionalism. Be careful. Its top people may be not so. but they are not with ur car allways.

i've never been there , but this incident seems to be not known by the top management.

I met the owner of the place Once, while his new Murano was crashed by his drunk driver @several years back at maradana. Fellow came, and didn't say a thing to driver even the car was seriously damaged.person was a cool ,decent guy and don't think that time has changed him to such third class mudalali.

Usually these things happen below their light, by labour level....

Nobody knows ,for us it's better to be on safe side.:)

But isnt the point of having workshop supervisors, store managers and all that middle management? so that the owder does not have to mico manage everything and everyone in the shop... so clearly they all have their share of liability.

The owners name is Mr. Ratnasena.

Kleen Park business is for sale as I heard the owner is getting too old and wants to sell of the business. I gues his management skills have declined with age and now all this underhand dealings are happening under his watch.

I think the problem he has is he got this information through his friendly relations with somebody there and might not want to jeopardise that relationship

I thought dat this would take the owner by surprise that he will immediately check on it rather than asking me to speak to him directly. As Don said I do not want to give him names because after all you don't know who else is invovled, you cannot trust anyone nowadays and btw how do I contact him ? Since he wants me to contact him I will do it.

yes pal,

i don't think that jeopardising the source of information is not decent since it's the trust , which gave the information.

The owner should take the immediate action if he's a clever businessmen.

Because he might get more hurt when this issue published in go**iplanka or e**kiri.

Why should you get into trouble, because some of the labours are drug addicts, thugs and thieves , so they've nothing to loose but do you?

So don't be the guniepig to clean up somebody else's business.

Take my word pal, it's not worth.

And finally ,

thanks for alerting us..

Never ever leave a car alone for anything and they'll f**k up even the simplest of the things.

Once I went to laughs to do an oil change I was with the car the entire time and went to pay the bill when the guy is putting the new air filter when I was going back noticed the engine sound is different and later found out that the air intake hose has come off from the filter housing!!!

Also they don't have the knowledge to apply a bit of oil to the new filter's rubber seal and once a guy tried to use a metal chain to tighten the new filter(which could damage it). So I stay with the car all the time and watch every step of the service bugger.
