Tesla has the most advanced electric car technology and is the first to market, but they're not the only car manufacturer that's been working on electric cars powered by solar energy.....

Honda.....

Machan, more importantly what has your 'Mr. Musk' planned for you? A new sex position perhaps?

Machan, are you not able to envision at least a few electric cars and at least a few solar charging stations on Sri Lankan roads within the next 10 years?

Doesn't have to be Tesla. Honda, Toyota, Nissan etc are working on the same thing.

What the Oz Govt seems to be doing, Cali, is inputting big money into what they call the Automotive Transformation Scheme. Scheme is intended to reduce the overall fleet carbon footprint over the next years. So, peripherally, there is support for hybrid/electric stuff - like the Holden Volt - but it's not a direct focus. Overall, the car production field is a mess here these days as the expensive A$ has sent car exports to hell in a hand basket. Couple that with the carbon tax shifting power costs up and the local buyers not really being interested in the Falcon and the Commodore anymore. Don't be surprised if you see Ford Australia exiting the manufacturing sector in the not too distant future. As you know, they lost Mitsubishi a couple of years back and Nissan before that. Looming issue is that local manufacturing supply companies - like seat and bearing and electrical loom manufacturers - supply all three car manufacturers. Lose one of the big car manufacturers and the small supplying companies are in serious risk of losing the critical mass required for their commercial survival. We already see Holden, for example, importing 30% or so of the Commodore from overseas - glass, electrics, tyres, some body panels. Guess all those type of issues pushes genuine 'leccy car development into the background for the political masters. Anyway, when the mining boom collapses and the Chinese money buggers off home, we'll probably all be back on rusty push-bikes here in the Land of Oz!

Members,

The post above comment by Scooter, the Automotive Transformation Scheme about Holden Volt in Australia.

I did web such about the car I thought I will post the web link under.

http://www.holden.co.../volt#/overview

Add few latest references is also from the web..

SYDNEY – Sept 11, 2012: Holden has offered an insight into the future of in-car technology with a workshop to support the introduction of the Holden Volt long range electric car.

Showcasing parent company GM’s global developments in car safety and infotainment, the workshop was hosted by Holden Chairman and Managing Director, Mike Devereux who said the long range Holden Volt gave drivers a chance to own the car of the future today.

“Volt is a very exciting car as it offers owners a unique driving experience. From its award-winning advanced technology propulsion to its cutting edge infotainment system and all-new active safety features, Volt is a showcase of what is to come from cars in the future. But it will be available for Australian drivers to own before the end of the year,” said Mr Devereux.

New advanced active safety features, including Lane Departure Warning and Forward Collision Alert, will be offered for the first time in a Holden, making Volt one of the safest vehicles on the road.

Volt’s Lane Departure Warning helps to modify collision risks that may arise when drivers stray over lane markings unintentionally, or depart a lane without signalling first. The system uses a windscreen-mounted digital camera that looks for lane markings to provide lane departure alerts over a certain speed.

The Forward Collision Alert system uses the same windscreen-mounted camera for lane departure warnings to detect slow or stationary traffic in front of the vehicle. The system looks for vehicles ahead and warns drivers if they are following another vehicle too closely.

I can envision the world running out of the raw materials required to make all these batteries. Does that count?

'Pericles',

Your prediction one thing R&D department in manufacturing countries will face one day.

Like oil crude reserves are diminishing in the world.

This one reason the world scientists went in and developed alternative fuels Electric Vehicles.

There will me more developments will come in near future.

More on the land of Oz and the local car manufacturing.

Currently the Financial Review newspaper is running investigation into the massive ammount of money the Federal Government pays to these overseas owned car manufacturers (Toyota, GM. Ford) so that production will be maintained by them on-shore in Oz.

This quarter Opel has arrived on the scene again as an importer/distributor running a parallel business to Holden...bringing in models like the Astra, which was incredibly popular with the locals in the past as a Holden car. Now, the question around is " What does this signal about Holden's long-term future in Oz?". Who knows, 'cos folk ain't buying Commodores and the Cruz isn't really that popular a choice.

And, Sylvi, the Volt...Holden is going to ask $60k+on roads for it! Holden will be whistling dixie on people buying at that price....blimey, you could buy 3 Honda Jazzs for that and have chump change in the pocket for a couple of Big Macs.

That's a shame that you can't envision a few electric cars on local roads by 2020 or 2025. It's only the people who have have clear vision for progress and development who can make it happen.

In most developed markets hybrid tax concessions ended several years ago, and have been replaced by electric car and plug-in hybrid tax concessions. I predict by 2025 the SL govt will have followed a similar path.

And Mr. Musk is too busy changing the world and sleeping with supermodels.

He is gay neda? I saw him on CNN speaking on a gay pride rally. His long time boyfriend was alongside him.

Masterdon, I didn't know you were so hot for Elon Musk that you had to lie and make up a fake CNN story that he is gay. Sorry to disappoint, but it's only in your wet dreams that he swings that way.

In addition to Tesla's accomplishments this year, Tesla's sister company Space X also made history in 2012.

In 2010, Space X became the first private entity to launch, orbit and recover a spaceraft (The Elon Musk designed Falcon rocket and Dragon spacecraft). In 2012 the Falcon rocket / Dragon spacecraft became the first privately developed spacecraft to travel to the International Space Station.....

Development of the revolutionary next-generation reusable Space X Falcon rocket is also underway .........

And combining Tesla's electric motor and battery expertise and Space X aerospace expertise, a Tesla / Space X electric powered jet could also be built says Elon Musk....
