N16 Instrument Cluster Does Not Function

Hi,

My car is Nissan N16ex singapore imported model(Some are Say N17), Auto 1.6cc

Recently my car had an accident which was hit by another car to left back side. It was take more than one and half month to repair the car and , when i went to take the car after repairing the instrument panel gauges are not working. ( Those were OK after happening the accident) The ABS motor is continuously running with ABS light is ON.

The guy in the repair center disconnected the ABS motor fuse & Start the engine & go for a test ride. The ABS light was ON. They said there is a problem with ABS motor & have to replace it.

In the instrument panel no gauges were working Including ODO/TRIP meter & Clock.Only the lights are working. i.e. Air bag check/ Oil/ Battery/ signal etc. except Engine check light. It does not even switch on. Auto gear indicator lights are also not functioning One of the guy in the repair center open the cluster panel & check & found that one smoothing condenser is blasted. After that they have replaced it and there was no success.

ABS motor was also replaced and the continually running ABS motor problem was solved, But ABS option is not functioning. They said they need to replace Instrument cluster as well.

My questions are

1. Where can i find a instrument cluster for this model?. I have searched in many places and couldn't find this model.( 220 Kmph , auto indicator with digital clock)

2. Why the ABS option is not functioning even after replacing the unit.?

3. Can this be happen after a battery is connected with wrong polarity. My friend said that this can happen like that. I also have doubt after I have seen the blasted condenser in the instrument panel.

4. Does this damage some part of the ECU of the car?

Pls help me on this. Pls tell me is there is any place to repair this. I am in Kandy.

I guess the best thing is to take the vehicle to agents and get to know the issues.The " goda weddu" will ask u to replace every damm thing.But ensure you do not try to replace parts with agents unless you are rich:-). Coz they are expensive.Once the issue is known you can decide whats next.

Similar thing happened to me as well once where the air bag light was on and did not go off after a paint job.Took her to an expert (team leader at agents).He sorted out the issue in seconds .Thats it:-)

As others have suggested, take the car to someone who specializes in Nissan and have it checked out to be sure..

As for your instrument cluster, the 220Km/h clusters were only available on the export models of the N16 while the JDM spec had the 180 speedo... so it will always be difficult to find one in the second hand parts places..

You could try N.I.N in delkanda, it's basically right next to the turn off to the University of Sri Jayawardhanapura (before the turn off, on your right hand side as you head towards maharagama.

there is a cluster for this model (upto 220kmh) at the shop next 2 Matha*a Garage Nugegoda. go check, it should be there.

Thanks every body. The workshop guys have found an meter cluster & replaced it. Every thing is fine now. Thanks

Can you please inform the cost of same? From where did they buy meter cluster, the used one?

Because a friend of mine tried several used spare part places without any success.
