Hard Water Stains On Windows

Hi everyone, has anyone had the unfortunate experience of unsightly hard water stains\drip marks pemenantly etched on their car windows? There are many diy cleaning tips eg. Using vinegar, various cleaning solutions, polishing etc. On the net. I want to know if someone here has had first hand experience with this problem and if there are any locally available cleaning solutions.
