Hi Guys,

I would like to known if anyone has tried the waterless engine coolant.

I started looking at it after seeing Ed China from Wheeler Dealers using it in one of the vehicals he was working on, and after reading the specs of such a product "Evans" I found that the boiling point has been pushed upto 180c which in turn reduces stress on the horses in the cooling system.

So I looked it up on ebay and found that 5liters is around 12-13 thousand..

Is there any dealers for such products here in SL... ???

Is ABRO a non water based coolant? The can does not say anything but its to be poured in straight without diluting with water, as opposed to WURTH where it needs to be diluted with water.

No it just means it's pre-diluted whereas the wurth one is a concentrate that needs to have water added to it.

Wurth is a killer inside Jap seals. If your car is old and has suspected rust issues in the cooling system, avoid at all costs. It does its job a bit too well.

VVTI, what do you recommend which is a little bit milder?

Also unlike what some believe, all water based coolants do lead to some oxidization though less than if only water was used, hence the case for water-less coolant.

Is that why the coolant needs flushing once in every two years or so, or does that have to be done even with the none water based coolant? Also, is there any distinct advantage using none water based as compared to the water based ie. cost/benefits? Did a bit of fact finding on the net re. the matter but could not find any worthwhile explanations.

After trying out many combos I settled for a 10% Wurth 90% distilled water combo for the Forester. So far no issues.

The only reason im looking to use the none water base coolant is because it reduces the stress on the cooling system; specially on the joints for example according to Ed China you could run the car for hours and simply open the radiator cap and it wont burst out. That shows the amount of stress and pressure within the engine.

My vdub even though it shows 90 of the thermo; the diagnostics shows a values of 110 which is above boiling... I am not sure how fuel is effected "not relevant coz the vehical would anyway bring the engine to its normal running temp but less stress if this product is in. Plus the added advantage of rust free internals...

The pressure issue is over played because the cooling system is designed to cope with those pressures. The real benefit is rust and the fact the coolant is for life (as long as you have no leaks).

Ok. So no flushing necessary every "so many" years as with the water base coolant.

Been toying with the idea of sticking the stuff from 'Evans Cooling' into a car that doesn't get too much use, as it suffers from some of the typical issues surrounding underuse and neglect. As least this way I won't have to worry about changing out the coolant etc. Apparently Jay Leno likes the stuff. But other than that I don't know too much about it.

I've been dragging my feet on this as you have to drain the existing coolant out and then rise through with a prep treatment that they sell to get all the water based stuff out to see the full benefit. When I added up all the costs (cost of labour and the cost of the prep treatment and the actual value of the waterless coolant) the cost came up to about the same as the cost of a new (cheap) radiator and regular coolant. So yeah, I'm kind of on the fence with this one. It seems like a good product but its not cheap...

For our conditions where regardless of what we use, the ambient temps and the driving conditions put a lot of thermal stress, best is to ensure all hoses are intact and change them as and when needed. I burnt my fingers, so to speak, by trying to take preventative action and ended up busting close to 50K replacing all the hoses and a radiator.... :) Unless teh car was with you from Day One and you have been using the said liquids from the start.

What exactly was the scenario leading up to this?
