Copper Radiator Top Tank..???????

Question

Posted (edited)

When I had my car radiator top tank cracked recently, the local garage guy gave me an option of getting it done with copper ("piththala top tank" according to him) and assured that it's a more reliable fix than the normal plastic replacement tank. (cost -Rs.8000)

But i was too afraid of the unknown and opted for the plastic one.

Anyone in this forum who got the top tank done in copper ??????Experts, your openion please..... :speechless-smiley-004:

aparaade machan. your mech was right. copper is the way to go. plastic doesn't hold up for long in our climes. there's a good radiator servicing place on stratford avenue a little after gandhara. they did my EK for 8000. (copper head) never heated afterwards.

run the plastic since you got it, but do consider a copper head if it ever gives out again.

Of course copper is the way to go for the tanks.

All old vehicles had copper and lasted the full life of the vehicle. My 54 year old Jeep still has the original upper and lower copper tanks no problems whatsoever. The newbies have plastic this, that, and everything just to reduce production costs and the weight of the vehicle.

Members,

It is better to change to copper radiators on any vehicle.

Browns used to have a separate radiator department with high quality copper radiators. Made to any sample given to them

All most all good old vehicles had copper radiators and both top and bottom tanks and core too were copper.

Some came with brass tanks but the radiator core was copper.

Till recently even Japanese vehicles had copper radiators. Now they come with Aluminum cores with plastic tanks.
