I am planing to buy a Mazda Browny Van.

My budget is around 17 laks, for a long model van.

Please advise for any common issues that need to be know before buying it and any specific engine model that I need to focus more?

SLA,

Mazda Browny Vans, have many engines from 2000cc Diesel to 3000cc. What cc engine you want

They are bit cheaper than other brands.

HI Sylvi,

Thank you for your reply, My requirements are as follows.

-Good reselling value(some vehicle models have less resell value for some engine capacities- eg.1.3cc petrol cars)

-Need a Dual AC one, if not available, need to fix it (I have heard 2000cc engine is not sufficient when fixing a dual AC unit, is it true?)

-Good fuel consumption

I need to take all above as an average and go for the Van. Are there any known issues with this van model? (eg- People say Nissan Serena is having a engine heating problem)

Everyone calls it Browny but it's actually "Brawny". Our company had one several years ago for goods delivery and it had a very poor record with us and we had to rebuild the engine twice. The 3rd time we bought a replacement used engine. We bought it unreg. I think it was a 2200. Not sure if it was just that our particular example was poor or it was that the engine did not have enough torque to carry the prescribed payload and the weight of it.

We had 3 Bongos before that (in a row) and they were bullet proof workhorses.

That's said the Brawny created one unforgettable if scary memory for me. Me and 6 of my buddies went on a incredible trip in it to Trinco during the war days but for that Avurudu week there was an uneasy cease fire. On a particular stretch near Dambulla one of our hot headed guys insisted on "taking the wheel" and scared us white when he did an indicated 140km/h and the road wasn't deserted as such. I thought we would get airborne but because it was 7 guys the weight just kept in down I guess. He's one of those "senses off" guys who has no clue about a vehicles' limit. Needless to say that was the last time I gave him "the wheel".

SLA,

First of all you have to decide you want a Van or Car.

Cannot have all what you want in a car, unless a limousine Duel A/C, economy on fuel, reselling value.

I think a Mazda van Diesel is the best for you. Mazda Disel engines have a long history of its own engines. Under license from Perkin’s few units that

were made. Therefore their engines will be good and reliable.

2000 CC engine is sufficient for a duel A/C. If duel A/C is not there can get same fitted in any A/C service station.

I used once Mazda Bongo Diesel short wheel base bought new in Japan, it was a duel rear wheel. I got rid of same due to engine detonation which I did not like. Also I used same for passenger transport. Which rear is not comfortable at all?

I never had any problems with them due to short time usage.

I have used number of petrol version of MazdaVans. Had to remove, the two rear helper springs to get passenger comfort. The stability was not affected at high speeds. Roads were not that too god during those days. No high way like EO1 Express Highway.

Highest speed 100 kilometers tried on Dambulla road and Puttlam road.

Once Postal department had their transport department all Mazda vans, entire postal transport was done with Mazda Diesel vans. They discontinued that practice due to poor performance of our local agents.

Today many private sector trades spare parts dealers have new and use parts are available. Early agent had lost their agency.

If any further clarifications’ are necessary please post.

Above are my past experience and knowledge of Mazda vehicles.

Nissan Serena had engine problems due to water boiling. That cooling system had a different way to refill water, very comfortable vehicle.

I am not posting against to GATMs post. He gives long usage of number of Mazda vans and his experience and his opinion.

I posted my opinion and experience of Mazda vans.

I will never condemn a vehicle. I have been living on Automobile and heavy Electrical industry, for number of decades.

No automobile manufacture will design and manufacture an automobile for a short time use.

There will be few short comings, When they detect them they will recall them lot by lot. Correct them free of charge.

I have learned costly lessons due to not attending regular maintain of vehicles. Once I used tube well water with plenty of unwanted deposits, to the radiator instead of using coolant.

That vehicle was designed for coolant. With a very small radiator which got clogged within no time. Heating problems, then it was cleaned and started using coolant. Engine also gave trouble due to overheat.

May be that, GATMs service department did not maintain them. This is how the vehicles get condemned.

Even the most recommended vehicle can get condemned, due to regular services are not done in regular recommended intervals.
