Assess speed due to mist: Police

FRIDAY, 06 JANUARY 2012 16:15 Daily mirror

Due to the mist along the Southern Expressway the police advise motorists to assess their speed by taking the mist in to account.

Eric Perera of the Southern Expressway Traffic Division said that a policeman is being placed at every exit and entry point in order to create awareness due to the prevalent weather.

“The motorists who travel along the expressway think that the minimum speed is 100 kilometers per hour. But that is wrong, it is the maximum speed we have allowed them to travel,” he said.

“The other problem we are facing right now is that most of them drive along the right lane. The right lane is given to pave way for motorists to overtake other vehicles. After overtaking a vehicle the motorist should bring his vehicle back to the left lane. We are strictly implementing this law as it had caused a number of accidents,” he added.

The Southern Expressway Traffic Division has fined 471 individuals mainly for exceeding the speed limit (100 kilometers per hour). A total of 51 accidents have been reported causing injuries to 18 persons so far since the first expressway in Sri Lanka was opened on November 27, last year.

I read somewhere that when they opened freeways in Oz back in the 70's there were frequent signs along the way which read "Slow vehicles use left lane".

The sign had a negative effect as it encouraged everyone to use the right lane because no one wanted to be branded "slow"

Authorities changed the sign after sometime to read "Use left lane unless overtaking" :-)

Yieks.. looks like the dog did couple of sumersaults, a back flip and a face plant. Definitely a 10 pointer.

Marks on the road could be from the water monitor?

To me it looks like the Monitor has actually dragged the dead dog across the road... What looks like blood marks seem to indicate it.

this type of low type of behaviour has been around for some times when people threw stones at passing trains

in UK there was an incident last month where a sicko throw a concrete block at cars on a motorway from an overhead bridge,2 people were badly hurt and the rascal was not caught either

Looks the two legged dog problem is much worse than the four legged ones......these two legged dogs carry anti society mind set.....sad :(

i dont know, but 300 seems like a bit of an unrealistic number in my head; but would be interesting to hear the perspectives of people who have done 200+ at least on how feasible 300 would ultimately be.

Ran the E01 bout six times, and did a bit over 220 on the last run. couldn't exceed it as there were vehicles on the right lane doing the usual 100. Need to sort out the aerodynamics on the side mirrors as it was quite noisy.

btw,do these Leyland buses have seatbelts? if not its pretty risky traveliing in them on E01!

I don't think even the Greyhound buses in the US have seat belts.

Newer fleets of Grey Hound equipped with safety belts and eventualy the other carriers too will replace their fleets with belted seats.Anyway having safety belts on highway coaches isn't reqiured by the US govenment.

Getting on this road in a HC bike all geared up in the middle of the night and do couple of runs up and down would be an absolute blast. All those nice sweeping turns and smooth road... How therapeutic it'll be...... I can't be the only one thinking this :D
