Odometer Reading Error

Question

Posted

Hi guys,

I got a 2002 model allion. When I was buying it abt 10 months back, the odometer reading was ok. But after abt. 1-2 weeks, I observed that the first digit has gone (vanished). After abt 2-3 days, that first digit appeared again and lost after driving for a day or two. Now it has permanently gone.

How could that happened?

One of the garage guys said, that might be happened by trying to roll back the odometer by the previous owner.

Is that true?

Could you please let me know the actual reason for this?

Can it get repaired?

I agree with your garage guy. Sounds like a roll-back gone wrong. I doubt that just the odometer can be fixed/repalced successfully. You can try, but then again it might work for a few days and go bust again.

The easier thing would be to replace the mere cluster. It shouldn't be too hard to find a Allion meter cluster in delkanda.

Thanks a lot for your immediate response watchman.

Actually I have no idea about it. How much will it be cost?

If you dont mind could you please brief the procedure of replacing the cluster?

If anyone know a place in Kandy to find it , please let me know....

Well, if it's a cluster for your exact car model it should be a fairly simple case of unplugging your current cluster and plugging in your new one. If you're not sure of how to remove your current cluster, goto a decent electrician and he should be able to do it for you. Whole thing shouldnt take anything more than a hour or 2 at most.

Sadly I have no idea about price or places in Kandy to find one.

Dont know about Toyota but In peugeot's instrument panel holds the milage with the ECU. so changing could result getting a higher milage or low one depending on the doner vehicle. some sellers in UK sells with the milage and some stating "unknown milage". so if that the case in toyota you should keep that in mind as well when buying one.

According to Speed meter repair computer expert. The last owner had tried to adjust the meter to read low Kilometers.

Your post First post confirms Garage owner had already informed same to you.

I'm not bugging you or anything, but sylvi, do you genuinely honestly believe that your post has added any value to resolving the OP's problem?
