Dear AL Experts.

I've recently purchased a FIT Hybrid RS (1,500 CC) with paddle shift its a JDM Y.O.M 2012 December and I'm loving it.

It had clocked just over 6,800 KM when I Purchased it and currently has 9,000 KM on the ODO now.

The General service (Engine Oil Change) with Oil filter replacement was done @ 7,600 KM.

Inquisitive to find out when the CVT Gear Oil should be changed and on what intermediate should it be changed.

Can you guys advise me on the type of Oil (Brand & Grade) which should be used and where is the best to get it done.

Honda CVT boxes should only be refilled with Honda CVT oil. For the interval, either consult the agents, or perhaps somebody else knows.

Also don't go by the odo because there is no gurantee its correct if you didn't buy the vehicle brand new. Check things like the timing belt as well.

for older CVT's the rule of thumb is every 15,000km. do it ONLY at stafford with GENUINE honda CVT fluid. CVT fluid is less viscous than normal ATF and you'll seriously muck up your internals eventually if you don't heed this. costs around 7000/- i think. and its a simple drain and top up procedure. you don't need fancy devices to "flush" it etc.

edit: only at stafford, i say, because they generally know better than most when it comes to newer hondas. if you have a capable mechanic, changing CVTF is not exactly rocket science.

Honda CVT boxes are really sensitive and you need to maintain them like babies.

On my vehicle (Civic Hybrid), I am only using HMMF (Honda Multi Matic Fluid) as it's the recommended oil type. I'm guessing this is the recommended type for the FIT hybrid as well. Please look up your service manual and find the correct type of CVT fluid to use. A 4L can of HMMF cost me something like LKR 12000.

Some dumbass service techs here in SL would tell you to top it off with ATF or substandard CVT oil - never do this. Although genuine oil is a bit more expensive, this will save you lots of time and money in the long run.

I would suggest you change it every 15000km. 20000km max. Most mechanics in SL would tell you to change it every 40000km. But with Honda, I suggest you change it at least every 20k km (15k if that's feasible).

I have also heard you should not use anything to suck the existing oil from the reservoir as it could damage the mechanics inside. Just let it drain completely and fill it using a new can of oil. Check the max limits against 'Hot' and 'Cold' limits marked on the stick. I think you would need around 3.5L of oil to fill the tank.

abu simplest answer would be to check the owners manual it will have a section on maintenance which will describe each service you need to do at each internval i.e - 5k, 10k, 15k etc go with that and give allowance for the driving and environment conditions
