Mazda 323 Bf3P 1986 - Aircon Problem

Hi,

I recently bought a 1986 Mazda Familia 323 (BF3P) 2 Door Hatchback edition.

I noticed that the engine is going retard as soon as I switched on the Air Conditioning. Later I found out that there's an Vacuum Advance Diaphragm connected to the Carburetor to mechanically pull the throttle when the Air Con is turned on and this device is not pulling the throttle enough to compensate for the AC compressor load.

I wasted almost a week looking for a replacement part in Delkanda & Panchikawatte but failed to find the exact part. I would be delighted if someone can point me to a place where I can buy it.

This is the culprit that makes me loose my cool! :)

Did you try find it in eBay or Amayama? to check with Amayama, you need to know the part number.

Hi Ruslan,

Amayama doesn't have BF3P listed in their webpage. eBay doesn't have the exact part, but has Vacuum Advance Diaphragms that can be used generally.

I could also find compatible parts in Sri Lanka, but then again I would have to mod the existing mechanism to fix them.

For one thing this part is very reliable and almost never fails. Are you sure it is this part causing the problem, not the rest of the vacuum circuit like the vacuum switch, leaky hose etc?.

I thought the same at first too. Replaced the vacuum switch (it had a problem of not cutting out vacuum once I turn off the AC, too) and replaced all the hoses with new ones. Still the problem is there. I think the diaphragm inside the unit is leaking, hence the arm is not pulled all the way inside to pull the throttle to the required position. If I keep on advancing the engine from the carburetor, at a certain point the pull is enough to compensate the AC compressor load and the problem disappears. (then again the engine is too advanced when the A/C turns off)

If there is a leak then of course you must replace it (with manifold vacuum the plunger should retract all the way and you can set the revs with the adjustment screw). There is a shop in Punchi specialized in Mazda spares on the Tower Hall side (my bro goes there frequently for his Mazda but unfortunately doesn't remember the shop name) on one of the narrow lanes going inwards. I will try to give you some lead tomorrow after checking my bro's car to see if it is the same part.

Rainbow and Gamlath motors are the two shops specialised in Mazda in panchi. Both are very close to each other on the same side of the road separated by a junction. Same side as Tower hall but a little down the load. Ask from a three wheeler guy but stay away from the kakkas.

They of course have brand new units.
