I think this has become a really annoying point, so I will say it again

SEARCH THE FORUM BEFORE POSTING A QUESTION

In this case I searched the forum with the engine code and got plenty of useful threads. The forum is an encyclopedia of data.

I already did. Dint find anything on 4m40.sorry for the trouble.

in my opinion do not go for it. the 4m40 does not fit with your existing gear box and you will have to use a locally manufactured "bell housing" for it to mount. you will loose the pulling power a lot and the vehicle will become noisy . selling the vehicle is going to be the real nightmare.......go for a 4M41 job....... quite straightforward....hassle free ... but expensive........... I did it for my previous GDI sometime ago and it was a success.

Thank you priyanka.i had also done the 4m41 previously and it was a success. I was wondering about the 4m40 bec its a much cheaper conversion. Thank you for the input. Great help.

We have used vehicles both engines but which came as original,
not converted,

The 4M40 is much more economical and easy to maintain compared with the 4M41,

on the downside it's a little bit noisy at high speeds.

V76/V96 is entirely different to the concerted one ............. the original 4m40 is smooth but the converted one is a mess

Yes from what I have seen the original 4m40 diesel montero is electronic diesel pump and the the japan domestic models are manual diesel pumps.hence the montero diesel 4m40 is smoother engine . It's basically same as the 4m41 but in this case it's a 2.8L manual.

Does anyone know if the 4m40 engine will mount without any modifications. Also how do you connect the exsisiting gear box on to the 4m40 engine.

Priyanka where can you get the bell housing fabricated here. And will the engine mount without any hassle. I have seen many 4m40 conversion but all of them have used the existing gearbox. Sorry for the trouble.
