Question

Posted
There is a small fuel tank leak link my Vitz 2001 car and a mechanic inserted a metal screw nail to it and the leak has stopped now.

later I applied some Areldite on top to that metal nail. Now I have noticed that there are some cataloy near the leak and they are cracked and I could found some welding marks under cataloy. So i think its better if i repair my fuel tank completely.

Can anybody tell me from where I can do this repair around Kadawatha, Kiribathgoda, Colombo, Gampaha.

I'd suggest you replace the tank machan, given that its a common car you can source one easy, It might have been patched up previously too.

Any mishap later on can make you lose the whole car,I suggest not to cut corners there. cheers

Given above is the best advice.

However, in case if you find any difficulty in sourcing the tank I can recommend a guy who can do this kind of repairs to perfection. If you are coming from Gampaha towards Kadawatha on A1 there is a huge Bo tree on the left about 200m before Indigahamula junction. The guy's name is Upul who is running a lathe and welding shop. The shop is located about 100m from Bo tree on the same side just before Alakamandawa restaurant. (Since you know the area you should be familiar with these names). Show the issue to him and he would tell you whether the repair can be done without compromising the tank safety.

Edit: I forgot to add a caveat. Upul is not your ordinary lathe shop guy. He is very innovative and that is exactly his weakness so to say. You will be a bit frustrated with his deadlines but the final work quality is worth all the trouble. :D

My suggestion is also replace the whole tank.itz the best thing u can do.

But its seems like upul guy is the best one for repair if u r planning to repair

Thanks Ramesh and Osanda,

If the prices of a new tank is not a reasonable amount I will need to repair it. I know the area you are saying and I will go and check with Upul regarding my issue.
