I ve got a 90A Car battery on my Van and I have to keep cleaning the terminals every couple of months. So the battery is being almost 2 years old and its a Global Battery. What I want to know is why this corrosion showing up frequently abd any cure for this ?? And this leads to decay the battery terminal too with time. Overall performance of course good but lacking power when the terminal get corroded else no problem ??

NEVER HAMMER IN THE CONNECTORS! :speechless-smiley-004:

Now tat the damage has been done, clean the post/terminal with hot water, spray WD40.

and repeat every time you top up the battery.

TT.

It is due to oxygen and/or acid fumes finding its way through small cracks around the terminal. Battery getting heated up and/or overcharging aggravate the situation. From my personal experience if you make a washer of 5 cm diameter with a thin material (like a bicycle tube) and fix it to the terminal to prevent acid fumes from coming into contact with the terminal you can prevent it.

Mostly happened reason is said by twin turbo.

Diesel engines vibration may also results the battery to vibrate a little and to have a loosened terminal rarely.

Make sure you fixed the battery tightly to the casing.

There are corrosion preventive rings that you can purchase from a local battery shop or spare parts shop. May cost you around 100 rupee for a pair. Place them first and tight the terminals.

What Romesh88 said also works fine.

No matter any reason, it's always better to inspect the engine bay once in a while including the battery condition. May be you can use a volt meter.

That is a sign of overcharging. Get your battery voltage tested with a digital voltmeter with full load and without load and at approx. 2000 rpm.

The washer diameter should be large enough to shield the terminal connector. I do not have any experience with ready-made washers (didn't know it was available) but make sure it is snug-fit to the terminal. Also you can seal off the washer to the terminal using a epoxy adhesive like Araldite or Epifix.
