Japan Alto 4WD

Hi guys, I recently came across three Japanese Alto's (YOM 2002 to 2004, 650 cc) with 4WD. One owner claimed that he removed the 4WD components to make the vehicle more fuel efficient. Therefore, my question to you experts is how 4WD effect the car's efficiency, performance and most importantly the resell value.  All the three vehicles that I saw ranged from 1.7 to 1.8 million. Thanks in advanced.

You re getting a 650 cc Kei car and you talk of performance,.the car was built with all wheel drive to a serve a purpose, if the previous owner wanted a 2wd , he should have got on in the  first place.

Cannot recommend a failed project car. Ever thought why he's selling the thing in the first place? Maybe the guy didn't get the desired effect with the conversion.

The 4wd system would have affected the efficiency to an extent that he would have got it removed.

Most people don't bother looking underneath to check if the car is awd or not, in the heat of the moment they just buy it and only realise that the car is awd when a mechanic points it out to them. I know someone who did an awd to fwd conversion to a bj5w,  he didn't know the car was awd until he had to change lower arm bushes and lifted the car up. 

 

There is no major conversion here, the only thing people do is remove the rear axle and propshaft. This does help cause it reduces weight and mechanical loss but this car won't be as efficient as a factory fwd car.
