briansmith
Coolant level in the Radiator Overflow tank seems to be remaining between High and Low level marks. IS this normal in 1nz fe engines? Has anyone tried using "Bear brand" Seiken coolant(made in Japan) instead of the oem 1 nz fe engines red coolant?? Since its Japanese cannot google the specifications of seiken for compitabilty. Dushyantha
Usually the coolant level reduces a slight ammount over a long time. I think that mixing different types of coolants wouldnt be a problem unless its a hybrid. Why would you want to use a different brand? asrock
Like Dushyantha said slight amount of coolant reduce over a long period of time is acceptable. But if it reduces a lot after say a long trip, then you probably want to get your system checked. Remember that its a closed system. My allion had a small leak near the radiator neck, after it was fixed the reservoir level never dropped.

Also coolant type is irrelevant in SL, we dont have winters where the water freezes inside the radiator. In fact coolant it self it irrelevant. The only real befit is rust prevention, even that is not a biggie since distilled water is good enough.
Rumesh88
What really matters is not the coolant level in the overflow tank but that in the radiator or more correctly as asrock says above the integrity of the closed system . As long as the coolant level in the over flow tank is above the low mark when the engine is cold it is OK, but you must open the cap once in a while when the engine is cold and observe if the coolant level is up to the bottom seat of the cap. If this goes down then you really have an issue regardless whether the overflow tank level is maintained.
briansmith
Coolant level has decreased abt 1cm in the bottle for a period of around 1 year(10 000km). Hope this as normal. Wanted to add Seiken red coolant 1l cause Toyota genuine comes as 4l which is too expensive for such a small amount of adding.
nilnuwan
Use toyota genuine coolant. But price is much more higher than other brands. Edited October 3, 2016 by nilnuwan
