engine noise with white smoke

i own a 4WD mini Mitsubishi Pajero io 1998 model 4G93 engine.  after getting stuck in mud at a nearby beach side, a few days later the car produced what sounded like a knocking noise coming from the engine. when i got a mechanic to have a look he suspected it had to do with the conrod bearings. i bought new sets of bearing and he had them changed. when i turned the car on there was no more knocking sound. so i thought. a week later the sound came back but was more louder coming from the top part of the engine  then the bottom with white smoke blowing continuously from the rear exhaust. what would be the problem please help me out...

Are you loosing engine oil? if so, you may have a oil burning prob from the head. I've seen comlete overhauls done on your model with 60.000km due to your symptoms.

i dont know. when they removed the top engine head to try check for the problem there was still some oil inside.... any other opinion for that??
