Guys,

Are there Vintage Hi-Fi enthusiasts in the forum. I am sort of one, great if you could share your experiences with some clips

.I was in the process of building up one though the cost was bit high..Finally I ended up with following, and really happy about the expense..

Yamaha RX-397 : Receiver ( I had it from 2004, bought overseas)

Yamaha EQ- 70 : Equalizer

Yamaha TX-492 : Tuner

Denon Overture 90.3 Speakers

Audio-Pro Studio 3 (bookshelf) sort of abandoned as got hold of a Denon

Turntable: Still Searching

Post some pics later

Hey Vitz,

Glad you started this thread. I'd certainly like to call myself a Retro / Vintage Hi-Fi enthusiast even though don't have many priced possessions.

Coincidentally, I also had a pair of Denon Overtures and enjoyed every bit of it. A few years ago one of the woofers stopped working and I knew that busting them open and attempting to repair would ruin them. So had to give them away to someone who was willing to.

Got a Marantz SD-63 Cassette deck with Dolby C, A Denon PMA 737 Amplifier and a Kenwood RX-28, (Which I keep more for sentimental value - my first stereo - than audio quality) and a pair of Kenwood LS-V710 Speakers (again more for nostalgia).

I can't enjoy these as much as I like since I had to stash them away in my fathers place in Kandy. Had to make a deal with my wife to keep a chair in the perfect listening position for stereo audio in the living room. In exchange I had to select just one pair of speakers and one amp / device to listen to 😥

Hey K9,

Glad to know you are on the same boat.... Bad to hear about Overtures, might have been a dry joints in the Crossover unit. Its a such a nice speaker someone should not easily get rid of. Denon PMA737 is a classic amp it seems.

My father was a huge Vintage Hi-Fi lover. And my house used to be full of HIFIs and classic Radios. Ranging from Technics, Kenwood, and of course Pioneers, I still own a Pioneer classic and also a collection of classic radios inherited from my father. I will share some pics later.

Please do share the pics when you get a chance @K.o.N.o.S. Would be fascinating to see.

Hey @vitz, I spoke to the guy I gave the speakers away to. You are spot on, it was the cross over but not the joints. He had to replace a cap it seems. However, he tells that it's not the same since the cabinet was opened and fixed. There's a rattle when certain low frequencies are played.

Crossover repair is not a big deal. Its strange to hear about the rattle, normally the removal of the woofer is sufficient to do the crossover job. Cabinet doesn't need to be opened.
