Not some other woman, not as a bribe. And the fact that she did not ask for some 'red sports car' and asked for a Aston instead shows she knows her cars. So give them credit, wish them well, and be proud that someone in SL has the balls and the taste to bring down poetry in metal instead of the standard Merc or BMW or Jaguar. I have heard the exhaust note of a DB9 at full throttle in UK once, and I tell you, it cannot be from a man made machine! Appreciate the metal, not the flesh! The car is Brand New for sure, he has got it down from England. I am not sure about the permit part. He has a Son, when they were planning for a second child he wanted a Daughter. The wife has said that she will give him a Daughter but she should get a Sports Car. She did not know that she will get a Aston. He has ordered it a year ago and it was a super surprise. DB9 surely is more beautiful but for this money F430 is best in my opinion. but Cheers to the lucky lady owner(receiver) of this car for bringing one of the most b'ful cars ever built to SL. Pericles
Thought I'd give this thread a bump, just so people getting the mail of "Namal's" Aston in Colombo Port can judge from the pics on the first page of this thread. I dunno if Namal has an Aston or not, but the credibility of that story really goes down when they try stunts like posting pics of this car. And I still haven't got the pics. C'mon, Madz, weren't we supposed to do something about this?

Like I said, I have NO idea if Namal has an Aston or not, but people are sending pics of the wrong car! And I hope ur sources are reliable on identifying a DB9. Plenty of people swore the badged 300ZX was a Ferrari and quite a lot, including forum members thought the Lotus Esprit TT was a Lamborghini Diablo! Thats why I choose to not form an opinion until I either see it, or get it from a reliable source. Never just believe things you see on the internet Personal Policy since 1997. PS. Madz, if we get some pics of this Christy car now, we can at least find out what has happened to the car, like changed hands or not Edited September 11, 2007 by Pericles

His name is Namal Senasinghe, and apparantly is the brother of the accountant who got attacked by mervyn's son last week and there was a story in the weekend paper of how he had called from UK and blasted the president and brother about the incident...its all bullshit, i doubt he owns such a car as he is not even in sri lanka, that story was probably circulated under government arm twisting...anyway Namal had a DB9 in the UK from last year itself (that is a fact) whether or not it was actually brought down to SL or whether he still has it i dont know..but it appears the government is involved anyway

SeanD
Quote CID grills reporter on Aston Martin The CID yesterday questioned Nation newspaper reporter Indika Sakalasooriya over a news item relating to an Aston Martin vehicle, sources from the weekly newspaper said. The news item which carried pictures of the luxury vehicle indicated that it was brought down to Sri Lanka for the son of a VVIP. The CID questioned the reporter for several hours on how he had obtained the information and pictures of the vehicle when it was at the Colombo port. http://www.dailymirror.lk/2007/09/15/front/5.asp Wat an idiot. probably took the pics from autolanka.com
SeanD
Quote Namal says he does not own an Aston Martin By Mandana Ismail Abeywickrema President Mahinda Rajapakse's son Namal has denied that he is the owner of the controversial Aston Martin vehicle that arrived in Sri Lanka recently. Speculation was rife recently that a VVIP son was using an Aston Martin vehicle costing over Rs. 45 million. The Aston Martin became famous worldwide after it was used in the last James Bond film Casino Royale. Speaking to The Sunday Leader Namal said he has neither driven nor seen the vehicle. Asked whether he knew the owner of Christie Lanka Apparels, Dilshan Fernando who had reportedly imported the vehicle to Sri Lanka, Namal replied in the negative. Rajapakse said that he did not know the person who had brought down the Aston Martin. "I only knew about it with the e-mail that was doing the rounds," he said. Rajapakse also said that he later learnt that the person who had brought down the vehicle had made a statement that the Defence Secretary helped him clear the vehicle, and upon inquiry he found it was not so. "He has said that the Defence Secretary had helped him to get it (the vehicle) out, but I clarified it with the Defence Secretary and he denied any knowledge of it," Namal said. Namal further told The Sunday Leader that the President has now issued an order to the police to stop the vehicle if it is seen on the road and to check on the person driving the vehicle. Meanwhile Fernando told The Sunday Leader he imported the vehicle as a gift for his wife and had no connection whatsoever to Namal Rajapakse. "I do not know Namal or any of the Rajapakses. I have a son and wanted a daughter and when I told my wife my wish she said I must give her a sports car if she gave birth to a daughter. I then ordered the Aston Martin. My wife gave birth to our daughter in January 2006 and the car came to Sri Lanka around October or November 2006. We use it only at night and go with back up security because of security concerns," Fernando said. However Fernando said he was not in a position to state how much he paid for the car or how much duty was paid without checking with his accountants. "I paid the normal customs duty when the car was cleared but can't remember how much," Fernando said. Meanwhile, Dr. Namal Senasinghe told The Sunday Leader that he owns an Aston Martin and that his car is in England and was never brought down to Sri Lanka. He also said when he spoke with President Mahinda Rajapakse recently in relation to the assault on his brother Chaminda by Labour Minister Mervyn Silva's son, a request was made by the President for Senasinghe to issue a statement to the effect that the Aston Martin was his. "I told the President that my car is in England and I asked him whether his son Namal has an Aston Martin. The President said he did not," Senasinghe said. "Stop the fancy sports car and see who's in it.....".. geez!!! Dilshan Fernando brought down his DB9 in 2006 and we had our session of "aww"ing and it was over.. but this new story sudenly came up again last month... I peronslly feel that there's more to it than what Namal(s) and the govmnt are admitting...then again, smoke doesnt always start to rise without a fire...
