What do you mean by auxiliary gear ? The 5th gear on a manual transmission, the OD on an automatic transmission (in the olden days these were called auxiliary gear by the old-timers), or are you talking about 4WD selector gear lever ?

If you are taking about the 4WD selector, and it does not shift into any of the modes (4H, 4HL,4LL) and is stuck in 2H, there is something wrong with your Super Select system (does the little 4WD light blink in anyway ?). So you will need to get that sorted at a 4WD specialist. Could be something simple as a vacuum leak, a spoilt solenoid or something a bit more serious like the transfer case or a diff gone bad due to poor maintenance.

If you are referring to the 5th gear or the OD not working...then the transmission is having problems.
