in years competitive motorsport there have been many new race formats introduced....

of these which do you recon is the MOST ENTERTAINING ????

F1 is an alltime favourite all round but é Americans prefer NASCAR where everyon keeps going round in cirlcles..! B)

then there's Drifting with D1 & Formula D

Rallying fans???

...its quite a long list that comes up when u look at th many RACE FORMATS - so which of these do you see yourself plomping down in fron of a Telly or track with a coke or larger to watch?? <_<

Well, I wouldn't say that all Americans like NASCAR...just the trashy ones (after all, it does stand for Non-Athletic Sport Centered Around Rednecks). Rallying is growing really popular here..it became one of the sports on the X-Games last year! And Drifting probably has it's biggest following in the US too.

As for me personally..I just love F1. Haven't seen a race in ages though. Rallying is good too, but it's just not one of those things you can sit down and watch for hours because of the way the sport is organized. The most entertaining races are probably ones where you have laps and laps on end of challenging (by that I mean not a circular track) turns etc..so F1, touring car chamionships etc. Those huge truck races used to be fun too but I haven't seen one in quite a while..know what I mean? (not monster trucks..I mean the crazy modded out cargo trucks)!

I love F1 and never miss a race. But for real close racing and thrills n spills its ETCC. Its even closer and more nail biting than MotoGP!!

Pity they don't show ETCC here often except sometimes on Int'l Motorsport News on Star Sports.

SCCA races and endurance races (rolex, American lemans etc.). I'll watch F1 next season. USCASCADES - u know that speed channel covers F1 around nascar schedule :)

lol...I don't have a TV let alone a cable connection, so none of that for me! Actually, I've been watching star sports quite a bit on TVU Player (it's a pretty neat program that streams a bunch of random -mostly chinese, a few american- TV channels on the internet) lately..so hopefully will be seeing some racing on there!

Touge racing is cool..but it's not something you see on TV is it?? Any place else to watch it apart from youtube and random internet uploads?

ohhh yeah!!! my staple diet

BEST MOTORIng (B.M.I) - its a JAPANESE DVD series featuring all stock cars which are pushed to their limts in track races around Tsukuba & Motegi circuits as well as tests on the Nürburgring

in addition they do some review of a Few - very very few normal cars (apart from é JDM & euro specials)

& good tests like "ergency braking efficiency" etc

all é driving is done by GT class drivers in j\Japan and id heated up by none other than é sensei himself KEICHI TUCHIYA (a.k.a Drift King / Dori Dori)

only down sid is if u diwnload off a torrent é odds are it'll be é japanese version - so unless u know a bit of Japanese, its not much fun

but if u buy it inthe sates, which is possible according to them - u'll get it with english sub titles or somtimes the dubbed in englidh version

price was aorund $10 i think...

Also if u want é BEST togue covrage look no further than BMI's "tuner" edtions called "HOT VERSION"

its amazing what the japs do!!! oh n they come to é us often and do simulated Togues versus American tuners!!!!!!!!!

AWESOME STUFF!!!!

I love all forms of racing. Shit, I'll even watch lawnmowers race each other. But drifting isn't racing, its more exhibitionism and its pointless, IMHO.

Don't diss NASCAR/Stock Cars/Circle Track. Driving on ovals is far harder than it looks. Imagine turning at 180 MPH, on a 14 degree banking in a 4500 lb monster while other guys are drafting by you and bump-drafting you in the middle of the corner and you have a fair idea of how difficult it is.

No wonder then that a NASCAR standout like Jeff Gordon easily adapted to Montoya's Williams-BMW at Indy a few years ago and set times that would have qualified for that year's US GP. Plenty of NASCAR guys have made good transitions to road-racing and they regularly run the Rolex 24 on the Daytona road-course in emsemble teams and do as well as the road-course specialists.

The top-rung IndyCar/ChampCar guys are just as talented. The old timers still say that F1's great lost talent was a guy named Rick Mears, who won 4 Indy 500s. He was ridiculously fast in his one test for Brabham but Bernie Ecclestone who owned the team at the time offered him a really shit deal so he decided to stay in America.

Watch an Indy 500 and you'll know how exciting it is. Don't get me wrong, I'm a bigger fan of road-course than circle-track but I really love watching a good drafting battle on a super speedway.

DHP you're right, SCCA has some good racing. Some of the best action I ever saw was a forty car field of Spec Miata at Laguna Seca. I also really love big GTs and Prototypes so can never get enough of the ALMS and Le Mans, especially if works teams are involved.

But as ever, F1 is the pinnacle, isn't it?

I'm definitely going with WRC... in my opinion this requires some serious skill... i mean your driving on all three noted surfaces (Tar, Gravel & Snow)...and the vehicles are much more driver friendly (for me).... F1...hmmmm.....I just cant be bothered with it (maybe the final 10 laps will be oki :D )..... I'm more of a street driving person... so, I would say Drag & Rat racing too would come as "entertaining" for me in terms of automotive racing...

Last year I was at indy's last practice day right behind pit lane... cars were clocking 220+mph and I was smiling from ear to ear and had goose bumps...when that monster goes by, the sound ratlles you you to the core...AWSOME!! I know that many europeans and Sri Lankans for that matter diss indy, but dont judge until u've been there and seen it for your self cos watching it on TV isn't the same. I agree that F1 is more intiging to watch esp on TV but 220+mph is no joke..

well...é topic was kinda intended as taken by all interms of Motor racing on TV...

as for INdy - no argument it takes a certain degree of skill - but i feel its more abt RISK rather than calculated hardcore talent like in WRC...

but Drfiting on a Tougé is just "ART in MOTION"

Wow, nobody likes watching Sri Lankan racing, huh? Too bad, because its usually good action. the GT cars in particular are really spectacular.

Aww man, u know we love the SL race scene  The only problem is that TV coverage sucks. And whatever the coverage that news papers and stuff do, IMO AL gets the best coverage, coz the papers and mags will give u only a few pics, and an article, while AL gets u pics covering the whole thing

Its too bad there isn't more interest in the Ford Lasers. Those guys provided some balls out racing in evenly matched cars, and its that close competition that makes it so interesting. Tho ur right, no match of the speed of SL-GT. Like Sharky found out last weekend, eh Shak?:P

Woah pardner justa cotton pickin' minute naow!!! dont ya be sayin' nothin 'bout NASCAR ya hear?

seriously though mate, theres rather more to it than driving around in circles, have you noticed how close the racing is? they are almost bumper to bumper, at 200+MPH!!! and doing that just a cpl of feet from a solid concrete wall has GOT to be exciting.....

But for me it has got to be

1. WRC

2. F1

3. NHRA Drag Racing

:P

IMAO...all ture abt 200+ on NASCAR but see from wut everyones said there is a general consensus that its all abt "Not Dying" or Crashing

as opposed to taking a machine & drive to é limit in terms of skill n performance - like in F1 or WRC

-its like saying it "exciting" to watch someone fighting to stay alive

rather than getting ur jollies outta a Prodrive Subaru fly over n down a 30Ft drop on rough gravel!

There is a way to take lower res pics Shark. RTFM

Besides, u can post process images and resize on the PC before uploading. As far as imageshack goes, I think the max upload file size is 1mb or 1.5mb.
