mercedes has 2 parts in it too...it's to unlock the car manually if the key fails (which happens quite a bit)you can't use it to start, just unlock only.

laser keys don't have a mechanical key to insert like conventional keys. you insert the key and if for what ever reason the laser fails/doesn't line up exactly, your car won't start.
