Honda Civic 2007

Hi friends,

We are setting up to buy a honda civic 1.8S I-VTEC from the january stock for the permit. I heard some rumors about this engine is a bit sophisticated and it would give trouble if u don't maintain it properly through agents. Unfortunately it's not affordable for us to bring the car all the way from Matara to Colombo :( , considering the huge cost just for a single service but an occasional drive is possible. U have any thoughts on this??

well, it's not just the engine thats sophisticated... It's prety techy in all aspects.

anyways, being agent maintained is just an assurance that they will do what is required when it's required (weell, thats what it's supposed to do anyway). that doesn't mean they are the only people whio are capable of doing so. My first Civic was agent maintained and all it meant for me was a lot of $$$.

In Colombo there are plenty of specialists that know honda's better than the agents themselves, so I don't think It's a must if your in Col., but not too sure about matara. I think Samarasinghe motors has a good rep though.

if you ask me, I don't think it's a must. but if any thing gets messed up, you'll prolly have to bring her to Col anyway... and besides, whatever car you buy in that class, everyone will always reccomend that it be maintained by agents.

I think you'll be alright doing your regular 3000-4000Km service locally and small stuff like changing brake pads etc. However, anything to do with the engine, take it to Stafford. I wouldn't let any local mechanic mess with the engine or transmission. Normal services local places are good, but for anything more serious, the company should be the only place to go to. Knowing Honda's you shouldn't have any major problems for many years more.

Hello Mihirana,

The Honda Civic is built well and will be reliable for years to come - just look at how many older Hondas you see on the roads. As for this particular car, I have had a very trouble free experience with it. Do the regular services at a reliable service station - I am sure they have them in Galle if none are available in Matara. The major service intervals should be done at the agents.

You will enjoy the car - it is a blast to drive!

Chris

Thanx guys,

I was just wondering about the service staion crew wrecking the engine and messing it up but as u say it doesn't seem to be an advanced engine as I thought. I saw in the motor mag. they've mentioned this i-vtec gives the power of 2L engine yet the fuel consumption of a 1.5L engine. Now what's the difference between the v-tec and the i-vtec???

What do u think the best colour for the car? Is it pearl red??

VTEC is Variable Valve timing and Lift Electronic Control. Basicly your cam profile switchs and depending on the rpm.

iVTEC uses this AND also does cam timing. Basicly an adjustable cam gear controled by a computer that will advance or retard the cam how ever the computer feels fit. The camshaft is attached to a small hydraulic device containing a helical screw. By varying the oil pressure going into this device, the screw can be made to turn in either direction, taking the camshaft with it.
