Lotus Esprit

It was nice to see the red lotus at the car show. That car was the only reason I went since I had not seen it in some time. The interior of the car looked mint.. better than mint actually (if that is possible)

I was just wondering how/where owners of lotus and ferrari maintain their cars. All parts would have to be special ordered.

The other other hot looker was the Jag convertible (xj i think)

Don't forget there's a V8 turbo (2000 Model)- Silver, although i haven't seen it on the roads for quite some time.

Two 12 sri Espirits came to SL in the early 80's, one white car which was rumoured to be owned by the son of a (late) politician (who had a hand in the construction of a particular hydro-dam in our up-country) and this red car. Not sure who owns it now, but if i remember correctly both cars were imported together.

That lotus was just awesome, when i saw it from afar thought for a moment it was a lambo. that car was the showstopper for me. The green Jag XJS was indeed the other car worth looking it, saw it last time thought.

Never had seen the this lotus on the roads before.

The Silver one had its engine go bust. I have never seen the white one. Is it still in SL? This red one is owned buy the Akbars. And Romani has got the black and gold JPS car.

The Lotus on show is owned by none other than Mr.Asgi Akberally if i'm not mistaken..

I recall seeing the 15 sri 25 a few months back with the roof off turning into Thimbirigasyaya Rd,with what looked to be a driver sitting on white cloth drapped across the seats so as to not foul that lovely interior :)

However Gunat is right about there being another Lotus - i dunno much about a white car but there was a BLACK Esprit that was displayed at a car show back in 2002@the SLECC!

That particular Esprit is one of the rarest ever made being only 1 or a speculated 147 in the world!!!

Known as the ESPRIT S2 WORLD CHAMPION JPS (JOHN PLAYER SPECIAL) , it came only in Black and Gold motiff like the Lotus F1 cars of the day and was made to commemorate Mario Andretti's 1979 F1 championship win. Special touches included special decals, a 3 spoke steel sterring wheel and Gold colour alloys,in addition to the distictive Gold body stripes.

No idea who the owner is or if the car is still around even, but that Esprit takes special & unique to a whole other level!!

Interestingly, RDS' Elan, parked next to the Espirit, is painted in the red/white John Player Gold Leaf livery, which was the colour scheme that the older Lotus GP cars used. I'm not sure if that's an original paint-job, but even recently, Lotus released a commemerative edition Elise in the Gold Leaf colours: red/white with the thin gold strip inbetween.

never seen the black esprit around.. does it come out at all?

sucks about the engine on the silver one.

I don't think the black ones have run for ages. The Silver one should be back on the road in a week or two according to my info,.

Does anyone know what happened to the Black JPS Esprit. I'm researching the car that came to Sri Lanka and found this thread. Wondered if anyone knows if it is still around. Just wondered if it was this one: https://drivetribe.com/p/sri-lankan-cars-and-porsche-the-YCQibDneQ6KnvrfGVL_bhg?iid=frNnzIoRTdaXgX6eAgFtzw

JPS Espirit is with the De Silvas of Alliance Finance and it has been with them for well over a decade. I believe they bought it from the original owner. Car was quite recently given a freshening up and has been seen on the road occasionally.
