Rover 25 Turbo Diesel Intercooler - Low Pulling Power

lakshank

Question

Car gurus please help me.

I have a Rover 25 diesel. YOM is 2000. It has done only 50000 miles and that reading is genuine. Pulling power is very very dissapointing. I have done loads of things to rectify the problem but nothing seem to have worked. I took it to a mechanic last week to get the MOT certificate and he did a full scan to diagnose any problems...but he couldnt find any.

It takes a considerable amount time to rev the engine. It doesnt rev with the movement of the accelarator. There is atleast a delay of a good 5-6 seconds for the engine to rev no matter how fast you kick on the gas.

Those listed things were done last week.

1) new air filter

2) turbo - checked and found faultless

3) intercooler - checked and found faultless

4) diesel additive added.

5) Air flow sensor - changed

6) Diesel filter - changed

I cant think of anything really. Has anyone come across anything like this. Can anyone help me to sort this out.

I deserve a better ride people. please help

How about the clutch/ pressure plate engagement? Might be some problem with the 'drive by wire' electronics as well. Have you checked it out at a dealership (If they still exist) or with a specialist garage?

I had a Peugeot 1.9 Tdi which was quite satisfying to drive and amazingly economical while I was in UK. Ended up with that over a Rover 25 1.4 petrol and a Carina E 2.0l (Corona 190 model).

Is it like it's taking longer for the Turbo to kick in? Sounds like some electronic problem to me. Did they try reprogramming the ECU?

It's amazing how many electronic issue are not shown on the analyzer in modern cars.

Lakshank why not go onto a Rover forum or Peugeot TDi forum (The 25 TDi engine is from Peugeot isn't it?) and see if other users have had similar problems.

There is an Autolanka member called Harris Lakshan who has a workshop in Surrey which might be pretty close to where you live.

I am surprised Maithri hasn't commented on this thread either. He probably has expertise in this car beyond anybody else in the forum.

Yes GTAm it looks like the ECU. Thanks for the thought...I am browing the net for Rover 25 forums.

Rover 25 has the same engine as that of freelander. i am not sure about the peougeot story.

I dont mind DON taking it to surrey if there is a guy who can put the quickiness back on.

And there isnt a aaccelaraotr cable in this model.. thats done by a sensor too.

You live in Staffordshire or in Surrey with your Bro ? If in Staffs I am sure there are plenty of people there who can sort it out.

Yes it does sound like a problem with the sensor or the ECU, more or less an electronic problem

The Petrol 25's had the Rover K series engine which was on the Freelander as well, not sure about the Diesels since Rover did use Pugeot units on some of their Diesels (I think, pre common rail), and I know the last Rovers used BMW units in their Diesels so its quite confusing to say the least

Hi all,

Sorry I only saw this today, so did not have an oppertunity, how ever you seem to have tried most of the common reasons.

Just 2 areas first for you to look at, Make sure the exhaust is not partially blocked-specially the cat. Also try driving the car with the Air Mass meter (Air flow meter) un plugged if this makes the car go really well your problem is almost certainly with the air mass meter or the wires or connection between it and the ecu.

If these do not show a fault I would check the cam shaft and fuel pump timing-It's possible someone fitted the cam belt slightly wrong.

These cars were not really well engineered so many problems crop up as time goes, added to that we no longer have a Dealership network through which technical problems filter down in to the public and the trade domains. I am waiting for some software up dates from my diagnostic equipment maker which I am told will bring my Rover and Land Rover diagnostics right up to date, I am sure a local company to you must have equipment like this-to my knowledge the Snap-On and the Sun systems are not really suitable, I am not sure about the Bosch kit, Mine is from a company called Actia and is very good on Vw, Peugeot, Renault,Vauxhall, Ford applications and adequate on Mercedes,Bmw etc. With the latest up grade I am told Rover and Land rover plus a few others are brought up to speed- so ring around and ask if the Garage has the kit or look for a Rover specialist or better still a Diesel specialist.

Maithri
