I guess Sri Lanka being Sri Lanka you could theoretically straighten the bent chassis but I think its difficult to get it back to what it was before and the strength would be compromised

You could theoretically rebuild or reinforce the chassis using tubular piping but with the option of cheaply sourcing a Land Cruiser chassis and body from Japan (relatively speaking) and with the number of SUV's running around with dodgy papers it makes more sense to re purpose the registration rather than trying to repair this vehicle, at least thats what I think

you reckon this SUV still using the old body on chassis method or unibody/monocoque system where chassis and the body are one structure...

If it's the latter i doubt this one can have a second life <_<

Land cruisers continue with the traditional body on ladder frame.

Last time I saw it, the body rebuild was complete, with the engine in, but had no windows,interior or paint. Also it was lying in a neglected corner of the garage. Maybe they put it on hold for the time being.

Still the same state!

I think the Land Cruiser has negotiated the bend at 120 just by shifting to low gear & rolled 2 or 3 times before the roof hit the tree.... & The Battery was hanging outside by the Ground wire too!!!!

don't know if this is true but a there are stories going around saying that this SUV is a "butt" job of a newer body over an older chasis <_<

maybe it's just a rumor :action-smiley-060:

Which is not a bad thing...

...In a big SUV, a monocoque body just sends shivers down your spine (relatively) unless you have a great suspension system (May be even Air). Think Brand New Montero for instance.

I'm sure even the LR guys will agree on this one.

ditto :)

thats why you see an 'Integrated Body Frame' which combines a kinda semi monocoque with a chassis frame structure on the new Discovery3 +

...& they've even thrown in Air suspension for good measure ;)

Ridgidity = CHECK

Comfort = CHECK

But for simplistic strength, can't beat a ladder chassis i guess

Alright, who wants to explain the concept of post whoring to 2F2F?

I'm sure so many can but nobody will be able to do it better than you :)

this being Sri lanka, almost anything can:D

and also once again this being sri lanka, the chances are that it'll still be cheaper to repair this than replace it...

since its a local product i'm guessing the agents would be just as well a good place.

Though labour might be higher, the agents' mechanics might be more familiar with the job :)

I got the same info from a car parts importer. He talled me that this vehicle came in 4 seperate parts n welded together in s.l. (Just info though)

That might b da reason for such a huge damage.
