Hero Motors and Ultra launches Electric Scooters

HERO EXPORTS Private Limited (HE), an affiliate of Hero Cycles Ltd has entered into a Joint Venture with Ultra Motor Company (UMC), a global electric vehicle company based in UK. Under the aegis of the new venture, two new models 'Velociti'- an Electric Scooter with extra speed, and 'Optima'- an Electric Scooter with extra range have been developed.

Velociti is based on the patented impulse inertia technology that gives it a higher speed of 40 km per hour and a better torque to help scale gradients. It comes with a powerful motor of 500 watts that delivers a peak motor output of 1000 watts and a range of 50 km per charge, under standard test conditions. Velociti has a powerful 48V/ 24 AH sealed lead acid battery, hydraulic disc brakes in the front and drum brakes in the rear wheel, and is supported by the telescopic suspension system.

Priced at Rs. 34,000/- (ex-showroom Delhi) Velociti will be available across select showrooms in north, west and south India initially. Targeted largely at the 28 year plus, evolved commuter, Velociti will be available in two colour options - Silver and Burgundy.

This is not new. I saw the same article in early 2007.

BTW NYPD is already using electric scooters in New York.

Check the price on these bikes at the manufacturers website. Very expensive

On topic

Chances are that the batteries will be a bit pricey... single charge-50km-48v and 24AH sounds like $$$$$$ :P

The Deus Ex Machina from Pasadena designer Jake Loniak looks a little similar to a single person transport module desgined by Toyota sometime back but it looks rather futuristic you gotta say :D

its bee described as 'an electric, single passenger, vertically parking and wearable motorcycle'

The Deus Ex bolts around the driver, with a skeleton of seven 'vertebrae' locking the driver/rider in (kinda like Dr. Octupus from Spiderman2?)

lean forward and it goes, shaping up to a normal riding position they say...

The stats-

0~60mph : 3 Sec

Top Speed : 75 mph

Power : Ultra capacitors & nano-phosphate batteries

Charge time : 15 minutes

Run Time : 1 hour
