This is Mathara - Colombo Expressway. at first stage its due t complete 3 Lanes each side.

Wow, the date on the pics say 2006. I cant believe i havn't seen this yet!

As far as I heard the highlevel road joins this road at some point past Kottawa. Please could someone let me know exactly where it joins the highlevel road, as I have heard so many locations that I am confused.

Also if you used this road and traveled from the South coming to Colombo do you have to travel on Highlevel after you got to Kottawa or is there an alternate route in the planning? If its via the Highlevel road people will take 1 1/2 hrs on the new road and another 2 1/2 on the Highlevel road and it would not make that much of a difference.

I have seen the overhead bridge at the Pannipitiya Railway Station been under construction for over 10 years and now once again after many moons work seems to have started. Does anyone know when this is planned to be completed ? as the Kottwa to Borralla road is in such a bad condition that only if this bridge is made it seems that the road will be paved.

This is a much faster way of getting to Colombo than using the Highlevel which goes through so many congested city centers.

Hope sense prevails and work is completed without any stops.

Came across some of the design plans for the colombo - Katu expressway on a website some time back.

Not sure on how much they have progressed in the construction presently.

If anyone has any new info please do post them. Thanks.

do u know wheres the Munchee factory is ? thats the place it joins

i dont think so... u should be able to go straight to colombo, but if u want to go to maharagama, nugegoda, etc. i think u have to go via Highlevel road.

Ok, that's where I think many said it will be connecting to the Highlevel road. So it seems that there will be a new road from there to colombo instead of using the Highlevel, now thats makes sense.

I hope they progress fast and we have a better country to maintain and up keep these roads as they will be of no use if they are not maintained, see whats happened to most of the other Main roads in the country, specially the roads closer to Colombo that carry a bluk of the traffic.

Thank for the googlearth link it was very informative. Cannot wait till they finish the road to make a trip on it and be able to see a bit more of this wonderful island.
