Hi Guys,

I know this is off the topic of day today discussions, but I was shocked to see that Wikipedia say's SL Army has acquired Leopard 2 Main Battle Tanks (MBT's). Bcoz Leopard 2 is a modern MBT developed by Germany, even India doesn't have them. And up-to-date we have used T-55 and related variants, which are design during WWII. This is the first time I have came across that we have new generating MBT's. Can some one comment about this.

this must be an error...

we dont have this MBT with us..

at least not in the field..

even the second link about the leopard doesn't have SL listed as an operator of this model...

Well but I heard that Wikipedia is a very reliable media. If your saying is correct, then it is a problem of the credibility of Wikipedia.

well... forget what i am saying...

wikipedia pages that have info about the leopard doesn't carry SL as a country that operates this MBT.. However it has given all those other countries that really use this tank...

the page about SL army says they have the Leopard...

In that fact itself...there's a mismatch!

And btw...it's not the first time Wikipedia has got certain things wrong... It aint perfect...

after all...the content is user/contributor generated...

It's not like Encyclopedia Britannica or something where thorough screening has gone into the content before it's published...

:D You have quite a few things to learn about the Wiki. You see that banner on top of the SL army page that says editing restrictions? There is as bitter a war going on editing the Wiki as there is on the battle front, apparently spilling over onto the real world with terror tactics too. Anyone can edit means lots of people like to use it to push their own views across.

most of the data on Wiki is submitted by users - its credibility has been a the cause of much speculation after the infamous "Essjay" fiasco...

Wikipedia is NOT accepted as a credible source in academic circles
