Building A Drag-able Car

fuzzo

Question

what would be a good base to build a drag-able car in SL... apart from the civic.

and no, i'm not going to do it.. i was just wondering what other cars can be used. (ofcourse this is for the more budget constrained people)

we have seen the following performing well

carina GT

ITR

CTR

MR2

STartlet GT

are there any others which would be good...

ok lets add another criteria.. this should also be a daily driver as well coz the budget oriented folks will definitely not have one car specfically for drags

and again, budget for car should be under 1.5 mil....

For 1.5 Mil- I think you can consider the MiVEC Lancers and Mirages as well- damn good cars.. CRX will be good as well but a bit of pain cause of the age of the car..

Hi Guys,

Now I am probably the least qualified person over here to speak about drags, so please bear with me if my knowledge of automobiles do not match some of the experts in this forum.

But I have always considered the Mirages, the Lancers and even the Protons (more or less the same as the Mirages) as a good cheap plaform for preparing a dragable car so to speak.

First and foremost they are cheap to obtain, especially the persona's or Wiras as they are known in the Asian market (I dont know if there are any compacts or Satria's being sold in SL). I am not sure of the exact value of these cars in SL but I asume they should be maximum about 800K (Correct me if I am wrong),

And then if you can source a 4G93 or a 4G93T with a Turbo and an intercooler or even the 4G92 Mivec engine which could be dropped in straight to any of these cars and voila you have the protential to get arround 200BHP (with a few extra mods) for about the 1.5 Mil mark.

And there are 4G93T engines with the ECU Intercooler and turbo piping being sold on Ebay for about $3000 so I asume it can be sourced for about the same amount from Japan to SL.

And hey I have encountered a lot of people especially arround Malaysia who have been doing lots of interesting things with the more humble 4G15 (the standard engine in most Mirages) to 4G91 conversions.

Now since I think a 4G63 conversion might need a 4WD conversion as well since 265BHP+ might be waay too much for Front Wheel Drive cars, resulting in a lot of torque steer, and the parts to do such a conversion are notoriously difficult to find, because you are basically building an evolution 1-3 that way, I think realistically speaking that does not meet Fuzos criteria for this particular thread,

but surely the Lancer/Mirage/Proton platform is worh considering,

Just an idea guys,

The Don

Well that's nice to hear, thought you were die-hard for Honda only. I like Mitsubishis too, though I've only used a 1980 box-model Lancer, which incidently hung around for 25 years :D But can someone tell me (never understood) the difference between the normal Lancer and the "Cedia." Because I've seen a couple of modified Cedia's on the road, and they LOOKED good (better than most overly modified lancers-can't say how their performance was though) So is this Cedia just a badge or does it have any mechanical differences? And how good of a drag car is it?

hey!!! Viva la Mitsubishi!!!

wow, a Honda avatar, but yet a Mitsubishi lover... :violent-smiley-099: machan you sure do have diverse taste...

i dont remember where i said "not so knowledgable" ... but i cant even start guessing.. lotsa thinks i dont know a lot about.. probaby in a bikes thread ..

anyway, sticking to the thread, how'd a mistu COLT be? cos there are(at least 'were') rumors that Mitsu is going to continuye its Evo range on the colt platform... plus its a light wieght car... though may not be the prettiest hatch in its stock form...

Evo 3 conversion would be a super drag car. Ashan's EVO 3 is a classic example. O if u want u can buy a proton wira and dump a EVO3 engine. Those would be ideal Drag cars Light and deadly.

but would the engine alone be enough? woudnt you need some good breaks and suspention as well?

Hey if u want to make a good drag car u can buy a impreza n install good wrx engine, n one of my friend told me its straight fit n same chassy but i dnt no we can straight fix a evo engine to a lancer

Hi Gihan,

Its a direct fit, you might need different engine mounts cos the Evo engine is heavier being 2L and with the turbo its but the Evo's and the lancers basically share the same chassy,
