Landrover Defender Bodies

hi guys,

I recently bought a LR defender 110, 2003/4 model with a Td5 diesel engine and a single cab body (the once used by V*P escorts). But i need to buy or make a station wagon defender body coz im planing to use it as my daily transport.

I need some other original parts such as a dashboard(LR dashboards r shit....one of my friends askd if i made da dash board my self ), upholstery, rubber crash bar and the badges.

I also want to do an engine tune up coz i feel that there is lot more power coming from the beast under da hood.

Much help if u can recommend a place which makes defender bodies or import them and da prices associated with it. And a place to do the tune up as well.

for Yala : i went to kurunegala machan...but most of da bodies r made out of 18 guage steel plates.. I'm looking for the aluminium body (original LR bodies are all aluminium). The guy at rajagiriya askd for 900k just for the body !!!!!!! Do u know anywhere i can find the aluminium one or sumone one who makes them.

Tune up visit LR Motors-Rajagiriya.

If you can find a 110 SW or a 5Dr body under 900K you are very lucky.

Check with LR Motors for bodies.

Dashboards are never popular aftermarket parts.so difficult to find unless removed.Heard a new six rocker switch and two additional gauges panel is on sale by "Iron Goat" .Not sure about the availability here in SL.

Im suprised you mentioned most LR body shells you found are 18 steel ones...you need to check again mate!

Thanx miniace...ya most of the iron shells are done by a guy in kottawa. And most of the LR Series converts are done by him it seems. I went to meet him. He said he'll give me a complete defender under 25 lakhs!!! anyway thanx for the info

the problem with LR motors is that their prices r like WAY over da top....i know this coz one of my uncles who took his defender to them for sum basic repairs had to a pay a bill close to 20k...he later found out that it cud have been done by sum other normal mechanic for around half that price

there must be lot of Landy experts here so can u tell me whats the difference or good or bad side of the 300Tdi and defender puma 2.4 engines? coz on the net lots of people have mixed ideas of the new puma engine.....any thoughts...!!! (http://de-olifant.net/automobiles.htm)

It’s just as I don’t like to have ketchup in my burger. a matter of personal preference. !

300 Tdi s are easy to maintain and can be sorted by any bush mechanic.

They are noisy as opposed to the new contender puma AKA 2.4tdci. puma comes with the common rail technology. Staggering 16 km/l fuel efficiency. 6 forward gear box means quick short shifting points as opposed to the 300 tdi s 5 speed long range gearing.

There are many ups and downs if u compare the two models . The puma is not gone in to the sri lankan market yet(I mean widely) so yet to pick up the price. But when it does im sure itl cost a fortune. 300s still hold the value coz that’s what we are used to.

Bear in mind…the tdci is surely less problematic and less prone to injuries than the Td5. But out of all my favourite is the Td5. That’s the land roves power train!

Yep they need low sulfur diesel.

hey thanks for the info seems sum r good sum not...wish i cud get a defender...just luv the raw hardy look and go anywhere attitude
