Hi Friends,

I am hoping to buy Civic EG8 VTEC model. I asked one of my friend about the model (He had the same model but not VTEC). And he told me not to buy EG8 since it is old now and no after sale market for that. Also he told me parts are bit expensive. :blink: But I heard Honda doesn't give frequent troubles. Can anyone please tell me about these rumors so that I can decide whether to buy it or not. Also can anybody please tell me the market price for the EG8 Vtec model these days (with little modifications)? :rolleyes:

Yeah they are kinda old.It has a good 2nd hand market only if its well maintained .Most of the EGs are Hacked.

EG8 VTECs go from 10-11 lks(depends on the condition and extras)

sorry i'm going to jump OT to suggest something.

i think 'fuel consumption' and 'kmpl' figures are very important in making an informed decision when buying a car. at the same time i do agree it is bit annoying to see half the treads are on fuel economy (and none on politics LOL). so why don't we come up with a list of figures and maybe publish it in the home page? i think we have enough man power to atleast cover the more popular makes and models. what do you boys think?????

Use search facility here in Autolanka.You'll find very interesting details about EG8.Use magic words,"civic","EG8" and maybe "Anti Honda" or "I hate honda" :P

dunno about the eg8 itself,but I can comment on tthe engine since mine has the same engine as the civics vtec(SOHC)...go for it over the carbs,deffa worth the extra cash...and IMHO it's the best powerplant of that era,it makes the other engines feel like diesels...and it delivers the power at the right time,a department where even the rotary's dissapointed.

all in all i'm not a fan of the eg8 BUT I love the vtec that came in it...go for it!

Good EG8s are bit rare. specially when it comes to vtecs. But if you could find a good vtec I'm pretty sure it'll give a hassle free drive with economy & the power in the right time according to it's class. Parts are not that expensive comparing to other jap cars but aren't available in each & every spare shops. But you could find most with agents / tech motors. The price tag differs from 10.5 - 12 lacks according to the condition,mods, extras & mileage. Reselling would be very easy if you hunt a good one.

Hi mate,

Sorry if my thread disturb you :unsure: . This is going to be my first car so I am really concern about reselling yes. Coz i am not planing to keep it forever, maybe after 3-4 years i might sell it and buy another. That is why I need those info. Of course i found some interesting threads but those are old stuff 2007-2008. Need to know the situ these days.

i had a 1995 EG8 (Ex - Carb Model) from 2002 to 2005. it had done 134k when i got it & 175 when i sold it....here are the issues i had but all in all i loved the car... fun to drive, comfy & good looking too ;)

1. A/C - had to replace the compressor ... it was gone :)

2. Carb - once the packing set was put from agents... no issues @ all with the carb

3. shutters were getting stuck since the rubber beading was old...

fare enough for 1995 car.

EG8 is good, and still holds good re sale value from cars made in 1991-1995. Don't buy any thing with fancy mods. small spoiler and lip kit would be enough if you wanna look handy. I don't think in 2,3 years there will be major drop in re-sale value.

if i were you, i would rather buy a non modified eg8 and do those modifications by myself. since most of those "modified" hondas have been driven by speed loving people and there is a pretty big possibility to find a previously crashed car. I actually dont like bodykits. most of them are good looking at a glance, but when you look carefully, some are not fitting well with the body, and some appears to be really loose. i have seen a lot of body kitted cars having this problem, falling of their bumpers. and some are too low to the ground. carefully check whether the car has structural damages such as chassis repairs etc. you can swap the engine if its giving troubles. but chances to play with the chassis are very very limited. all the best.

yeh. ;) its hard to find good mechanics for this kind of works in sl. i would get a body kit done if i get a chance to install a light weight body kit well tested for increased aero dynamics. and i think we dont have that kind of stuff here. i have seen some body kitted cars looks like "space ships" in those tv series's. lol
