Noise On Starting The Engine, Dissapear With Acceleration

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I have a Starlet EP82.

It gives a screeching (chiri - chiri) sound on starting the engine.

It disappear with raising the engine rpm, or moving the car.

Any ideas?

Can it be a problem with timing belt?

How should I check timing belt for defects?

Thanks in advance!

if not for fan belts, if the car equipped with an electric auxilary fan, then look at the alternator and power steering belts/ belt. Adjust them or get it adjusted if they're loose. When you press the belt if it has a play more than 0.5 ~ 1.0 cm, you can consider them as loose. If the belts are V groove type (like this)

then check whether the edges are worn out and belt is sunk into the groove of the pulley, then change the belt. If the belts are of flat type (like this)

check the inner side of the belt for small cracks, if found, replace the belts.
