Engine Miss (need Help Guys)

Hi Guys,

My recently bought ek3 gives some engine miss sometimes . Actually it feels like something with the gear box, coz when I press clutch pedal the miss stops. I bought it last week and went to matara I found no issues with the car at that time. After that I gave it a proper service and some shock absorber bush replacements. Tody I came back to colombo and when I reach Kaluthara this issue came . I stopped the car and started after 5 min and it was ok. But again reaching Rathmalana issue came again, somehow I managed to go home but still worried about the matter . I don't know much about car issues guys, so can anybody please help me with this?

What you mean by a mis... are you loosing the power and dropping RPM while drive? did you idle and checked when this happened, does RPM indicator goes up and down? If this kind of a thing happen its some thing to do with air floor , throttle position sensors.

Check the battery, do proper cleanup to throttle body, clean injectors, change air filter and see.

I dunno but I fells it is something with the gear box or clutch system. Because if it is an engine trouble it should come even if the gear is neutral. But in this case it comes when I shift, and when I press the clutch pedal it stops.

Is the EK3 a Vtec or not?

and bro Miss means drop of RPM or fluctuation of Rpm?

sometimes might be something wrong with your Air flow sensor

No machan its not Vtec, and there is no drop of RPM or fluctuation. It comes when I change the gear. if it is something with the engine the issue must come even if I am not in a gear na? It came only yesterday. Today I traveled about 35kms and it didnt come, now the baby is running smooth. I am confused with this. I think it comes when I drive long distance, something with the heat. I dunno thats what I think am not a professional . What do you think bro?

Seems like you have a gear box issue, I think its related to your clutch and the pressure plate, during the long distances it will get heated and due to that it will have abnormal behavior like engine mis type vibration and/or abnormal jumps when u start from 0, 1st gear and 2nd gear .. this might with the reverse gear too.. better replaced the clutch/pressure plate otherwise it impacts your engine mounts

When was the last time you checked your spark plugs? Before you blow thousands of Rs. on replacing a clutch check if your engine has a very good tune.No engine miss at idling speed doesn't mean that there is no issue with the ignition and the fuel injection system. The way engines behave significantly changes depending on other factors such as engine load, etc, etc...So you couldn't really come into a conclusion about the condition of your efi sys. by just checking the smoothness of the engine at idling speed.

If i were you I'd just use it for a while and see if the problem returns. If it does, look for a simple and cheap solution and then work your way up. Don't spend money on repairing anything based on an assumption..

I highly doubt heating will cause this type of issue, but if the pressure plate needs replacement you will have this irrespective of the distance you travel.

What you exactly mean by the mis? IMO mis is where fuel ignition failes in cylinders due to a failure of spark plug/injector etc.

Actually bro I bought the car recently (A week back) so dnt no when was the last time the plugs were replaced (can I do it myself?). what do you think? May be I must do an engine checkup from a good repair station.

Did you get a mechanic to check the car before you bought it? If you dont have a lot of mechanical knowledge that is often the most sensible first step to take in the car-buying process.

Since you mentioned in the first post that you aren't well-versed in the mechanical side of things, I think the best thing is to take the car to a good garage (or better yet the agents) and ask them to give it an inspection and see.

i think first take a look at the basics bro.. fuel filter. air filter. iginition coil. plugs. plug wires. its a good practice to change all these once u first buy the car so that u can keep a track of the usage.

i recently had a similar miss problem and no one could find it.. fianlly found out that it was a faulty ignition coil.. the coil was leaking current to the outside when it gets heated up.

so u never know..

Hi Guys... really sorry for the really late respond. actually the fault was the distributor oil seal. when the engine heat up oil leaks to the distributor making the ignition system not working correctly. Minor fault that cause a big engine knock Got it repaired and now no annoying knocks Sorry again for the late respond fellows I hope this will help you guys too

Check the spark plugs wires, it is a common issue that the plugs tops get burst due to the high current (electron pressure) and spark to the engine head rather than sparking the plugs. This also creates this type of "miss", this feels much when you load the engine by releasing the clutch. This is common issue in AE110.

If this is the case you could clearly see the plug top/connector damage in white colour. Check this during a night, then it is much visible.
