Why Different Fuel Economy??

Question

Posted

Hi all,

What is the technical reason for different cars have different fuel economy?

Here what I'm focusing on is cars with same platform.

That is:

Eg. Sedan, Automatic Trans, 1 500 cc, EFI

Factors that fuel economy varies,

1. Based on the model of the same manufacture.

2. Based on the manufacture (Eg, Toyota Vs. Nissan)

MY QUESTION IS:

1. How this variation happens according to "Factor 1"?

2. How this variation happens according to "Factor 2"?

Vehicle weight is one cause for the varience

the next is down to the level of tune based on the fuel maps used by the ECU

another is the gearing ratios on each car

other smaller factoers like the coeficient of drag as well as the rolling resistance will also have a slight impact i reckon
